    New to Linux Wireless

    Ok, I've just got my wireless card to work with Linux.. But I'd like to get some GPS involved with it.. Can someone tell me where I can start? I've looked at http://www.ibiblio.org/fplan/Aviatio...WTO.html#toc8, but it doesn't seem to help me get started on the right paths.. Any thoughts (URLS)?

      Not really sure what you are looking for? The link you provided has a link to GPSD which is what you need. What kind of info are you looking for?

          Sorry if I sound like a dumbass, really, I'm not.. Maybe I can start with hardware.. What hardware can I use with Linux and then maybe find out what apps I can use with it.. I know there's MapPoint in the Windows world, but I'd rather stick to just linux (I haven't tainted my laptop with windows and don't plan on doing so anytime soon).

              GPSD is what you want, and pretty much any GPS that puts out NMEA data will work. I use one of the old, yellow, serial-cabled, AAA-powered EarthMate GPSes with no trouble.

              DeLorme now makes a tiny USB version of same, powered by the USB bus. There are also Bluetooth GPSes available, and bluetooth stacks and support under Linux.

                  Agreed. If all you are using it for is WarDriving/mapping you don't need a fancy, expensive GPS. The Garmin eTrex line is spiffy (www.garmin.com). Make sure you know what you are getting though as not all models come with the data cable and it is expensive.

                  GPSMap is a good program for mapping.

                      A lot of programs are supporting the garmin protocol too.. (or at least in theory).. but if it smells like NMEA and tastes like NMEA, then it must be a good thing
