I had just started wondering about this:

For the longest time I remember voip being talked about, but not practically implementable. This week I've heard our system admin all pumped up about how inexspensive it is, and how it will actually save the company money if properly implemeneted..... What's the word?

A company that did some VoIP stuff on Linux used to work in the same building as me. From what I understand it is really popular overseas, especially in countries where the phone service is government regulated and very expensive. It has not developed the same level of following here in the states, though the technology is there. From what I understand the delay has gotten about equivalent to an international call, depending on how good the connection is. I think You generally dedicate a T1 or higher to the VoIP system.
