when I went to Defcon this past August, I talked with a few people who were telling me about how Kevin was not regarded as a hacker but rather a social engineer. This may be true but I don't believe that's all he did. I'm going to look dumb and ask....Js Kevin not regarded as a hacker or does the community hold a grudge against him?

I don't mean to be a jack ass...well yes I do...but what is the point of this thread? Seriously, there are 571 (as of this post) registered users on this board (a statistically insignificant portion of the "hacker community"). Of those, about 50-60 (high estimate probably) post here regularly. Of those you may get 5-10 to respond to this with their opinions. Do you really think those 5-10 people speak for the entire community?

i don't really care what he was/is.
it's all about the unjust treatment he recieved while/by beind detained.
i'm sure that many people dont regard him as a hacker, but he is now a prominant fugurehead/spokesman for us. someone that the media and the public will recognize.
so whatever he is, he is above all, a fairly powerfull tool. (if we could get him to actually talk to anyone important)the fresh prince of 1337

I had done some reading a while back for a paper, and am not sure how scured the materials were, but it appeared that has was an actual hacker, depending on how you define it of course. He also did some stupid things, but who hasn't; none of which deserved a 1/10 of the mistreatment that he received.
In any event, he doesn't appear to be any different from the countless other hacks out there, aside from being pretty skilled. The biggest things is that he was exemplified... and it worked.if it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud; and I'm gonna go there free.Comment
