As usual, I'm a little late to the game, but my friend has been demonstrating a free (as in beer) almost-completely-P2P VPN system called Hamachi. It works through nearly every firewall, uses strong encryption, permits a computer to be a part of multiple networks, and allows "buddy list" style darknets. Although the developers are a little tight-lipped (especially when it comes to their hole punching process), they document in detail their security algorithms. Clients exist for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. If that weren't enough, it is dead simple to use.
In short, it seems really cool.
So...
Does anybody on here have any experience with this system? Do you trust it? Are there any open source alternatives (I could find only x-kad)? Also, why hasn't this gotten more attention? It would seem to be one of those killer applications that makes everybody wish they had done it first.
