The idea for an art contest has been suggested, and this idea is just as good, since it is also art, just performace art.

A Performance Art Contest like a, "Talent Show," sounds like a good idea.

That doesn't cover magic, comedy, daredevil stunts and ventriloquism. Not to mention all the other talent people might have, This could include more than just art people.

In the broadest sense, it could include any performace in front of others that could be considered art. Lockpicking, dancing, magic, drink tricks, bar tricks, stand-up comedy, "rap wars" (re: previous scavenger hunt) perhaps even really cool math problems with elegant solutions.

Here is what I was writing in the prior post as simpler statements:
An art contest was suggested before.
An art contest is a good idea.
A talent show is an example of performance art.
A talent show is a good idea.

I'm not suggesting joining them. :-)

Perhaps that should be carefully screened....especially for well...how to put this politely....potential damages to ones eye sight upon witness of acts not meant for human eyes. *Wink*

(I can think of a few butt cheeks i could have done without seeing a few years ago.)

Russ, of course, I am up for it. A lot of us have been discussing ideas back and forth. Maybe an IRC or AIM Chat planning commitee should be in the works.

Karaoke Revolutionplayed it, loved it, even got a 50,000 or whatever the perfect score is one time. something i've always wanted to know, bascule, maybe you can tell me. is it possible to "load" all the games song lists together somehow at one time? like, boot KR3 and then swap discs around or something to access the other tunes, too, without turning off and halting the action and changing everyone's characters, etc?

Nope. However Rock Band will let you do that, letting you download new content without having to buy a new game.

Hi all,

I'll put together the talent show idea if anyone is interested? Likely, I'll set up a website where interested parties can apply. Probably a show about 1 hour long with 5 minutes for each person?

Any thoughts or ideas would also be appreciated.

keep the idea active and if your interest in starting such an event is genuine, drop an email to DT/Jeff. Additionally, if you will need resources on the contest floor (such as space, and access to electrical outlets, etc) then pay attention to requests from organizers like Russ or Grifter, as well as Blackbeetle.

If your events gets listed on the main defcon contests/events page for DC16, I can make a forums for its discussion in the forums contests/events area.

Last, you might find an easier time making it a success if you include members from your own DCG to help organize it. (Share the workload with your peers.)

Good luck!

I like this idea. There are so many people at Defcon with crazy talents and abilities (Deadaddict's contact juggling is badass) that this would be super fun to watch.

It would take work, but some sort of American Idol-esque screening process the day before could keep people with no real talent from doing something. There was a talent show at NotaCon that was just silly because they didn't have any screening in place.
