Hey there,
not sure where this fits in the forums,
but the rooms in the Riviera for Mon - Tue - Wed before con are $47 on Expedia.com. Friday's rate is $89. Thur is like $59 IIRC.

just a heads up.

Those are good prices.

I would also reccomend asking them about players club deals, if you had ever gambled or played at the Riv before. I was able to snag a room from Tu - Thur as a comp and added the Friday thru Sun at seriously reduced rate.

Ok- so if they have this deal, why would reservations for the "special defcon rate" still be at the ~$100/night range. Is this the first sign of the riv trying to screw us? What is so amazing about having a convention rate if major travel websites can offer a lower rate for the non-weekend con days? I will give the Riv a call later on and see if they can't just adjust my room rate for those nights.

Yeah I was suprised when I took the players special that there was even the possibility of extending it thru the con.

Now if they put all the con rooms near each other, that would be spiffy, but I get the impression that is not the case; first checkin first allocation. That might be one of the things I miss about the AP. The open party. Then again having non-con going partiers somewhat diminished might not be too terrible either.

Wow? We might actually get some sleep? no way...

We can take care of that for you if you want...

Could the rate be for non-"Deluxe" rooms?

Could it be an issue, like with the AP, where you can book a reservation at a lower price (even when the AP was sold out) and when you arrived, you paid that rate, but they made you stay at a "partner" hotel?

I'd like to see what information you find.

I might be able to partially explain things. I just called the hotel to change my reservation slightly and checked the public web reservation system and found that rooms were $49-$59 for Wed/Thurs. I asked about this and was told that the $92 rate was the con rate for a delux room (normally $140 ish)

That rate is for 'basic' rooms as TheCotMan mentioned. Your expedia deal might also be for basic rooms.

Hrm hrm...
So we're probably thinking: basic = no fridge, deluxe = fridge ?

And they are larger rooms as well (100sqft or so I was told).

Strippers are still an extra charge though

100sq ft. larger than the less expensive rooms, or 100sq ft. total size?

No idea. I presume 100sqft larger than the basic room.

Heh heh. 100 sq ft? Wouldn't that be a room that is only 10 feet by 10 feet?

"Here is your more expensive room!"
"But! But! That is no bigger than a jail cell!"
"Precisely" *CLANK*
"GAhhhhhhh!"

I didn't think the Rivera would be a japanese business motel!

100sq ft total would be just slightly more roomy that our standard cubes. i have found room to sleep in one, just no room for a bathroom.

hmmm better bring a thermos.
