Pardon my ignorance, but what does the term load-in mean as used here? It sounds like a setup time but the fact that they work backward has me a bit confused.
Thanks.

that info is for the bands and crew, it makes sence to them and us.

Means that's the time they need to be there at and start preparing. Hooking up gear, etc ...

It makes sense that the first band to play is the last to load in, and so on.
so they can quickly set up in order of the lineup...
at least it makes sense to me.

Good point. I was thinking more along the lines of stage setup...
On that note, enough about theater terms. My intention wasn't really to distract bink's thread.
A more approrpriate question is: what are the prime spots for a line-up like DefCon (i.e., when are the most people in attendance)? For a rock show (at least around my parts), the ideal seat is around 12:30 to 1:00. Given the style of music, the enthusiasm of the audience, and other events going on early in the night, something like the B&W is likely to play by a whole different set of rules.
In past years, it seemed to me (as I popped in and out) that the number of people was actually pretty stable. The amount of energy, though, would die down as people burned their way into the night. (However, in my position as a mere casual observer, I may have been witnessing only the ebb before the flow.)

Just checking in and saying HEY! I'm ready to rock some ass. You also get a free set to check out on your Defcon cd as well! Come say hi in the DC vendor area, I'm with the Green Sector crew- the one with the black light circut board cool stuff going on!

Lope, your set was absolutely fucking kickass as always. i'm dying to know the artist details on two songs in particular... your leadoff hitter (was this by the same person who did naughty little emmily on your dnb #11?) and stalking you on myspace
absolutely outstanding. if they are part of the content on the con cd i'll be very happy on the way home.

We picked up a DefCon11 (I think) CD, just got home anxious to listen to it and it's all messed up! It'll play for a minute or two then starts skipping all over the place, straight out of the case. So sad. Guess we'll have to wait till next year and pick up a few more CDs.

Thank you Deviant! In fact, thank you EVERYONE!
The tracks in which you are talking about will be on the cd I am planning on making for Toorcon!
The lead off, from Ferris Bueller's Day off: Sigue Sigue Sputnik Love Missile FI-11 Ultra Violence Mix.
The Myspace Track: John B. I'm Stalking You On Myspace drum and bass mix. I think its on Itunes by now, its only a couple weeks out - the white lable came out about a month and a half ago.
and geeze.... I love that Emily track because its soooo wrong and you kinda feel dirty after you listen to it.

What was (where can I find) that badass Pulp Fiction mix? That ROCKED!heh, we're all so desperate for the recordings from this year. i know that i'm dying to score the audio and/or video for both 'Loper and the minibosses set. (for anyone who wants a real surprise, check that video out if you can... i come off as a pretty inert and immobile guy, but i was rockin' out with all four limbs when they took the stage)
p.s. - Jackalope... when i mentioned what i thought was the first song in your set, i may have been wrong... i'm referring to what was the final cut in your sampler mix on the DefCon 14 CD, the "i'm drunk so take me home" track.

"Take me home" by John B. I know that one is on Itunes. Another place to look is http://www.beatport.com. damn, i'm all giving up the secrets this year. next thing I know y'all be djs or something.

Jackalope, I caught the first part of your set and loved it. I'm a big fan of drumelectrobass. It's always good to have a DJ playing stuff that will actually get people up to dance, instead of sitting around the room. Sorry I never came up to you and said anything, but I was busy getting hammered.

god, someone give me some sort of estimate as to when the board recordings will pop up online. i'm laying here (well, sitting here now) completely unable to sleep despite the fact that i ran on pure adrenaline and good vibe for the past 36+ hours and the main reason i can't get a wink of shuteye is because the band and DJ sets just keep playing over and over in my head. i'm so dying to download them.

sleep is for the weak, dj sets are for the awesome. i'm trying to sleep too (apparently badly.)

I got regenerator going right now....it is hard to come down from that defcon high. You get used to the vibe, that feel, then it is all stripped away by this reality thing. I am still mad that regenerator got screwed, I really like their stuff, hope they come back next year.

I had a bit of an akward moment yesterday morning when the girl at my coffee shop asked for my name and told her "jur1st" while wearing my sweet hackerpimps hat.
My buddy fr3ak had to go to work yesterday and simply couldn't take it and ended up leaving at 3.
I'm anxiously awaiting the sets as well since I my memory is really hazy of what happened once I reached Black.
Work today sucks. Can't talk. Tired. Want to start building the Mystery Boxes for next year... ;)

ck3k i can assure you that regenerator will play again next year . I talked things over with them and seeing as they got a awful raw deal with the shutdown of the white ball I felt that they needed a second chance . so provided defcon isnt cancelled next year regenerator will play .
I helped regenerator recover some of their gear on Sunday and they seemed pretty cool, in spite of all the goings on. I think I'm gonna go see them this Thursday when they play locally.

Deviant, that reminds me. I never got your DVD to you. If you are still interested, I'll just post the files on my website and let you leach them. Conversely, I could send them snail mail to you, but that would take longer :)

ya know... all of this of course is hindsight.... Regenerator should have been moved to one of the Renegade parties....cuz when I throw raves, when the police shut down a room, we just figure out another.

Yup. I love the electrostep. It gets kids dancing and they don't know why. I knew you Floridians were running around somewhere. If you were busy getting hammered, you were doing your first DC correctly.

Awesome, they always have an awesome set. I really hope to catch the full thing next year. I got a couple of their cds, so I am content for a little while ;) I just want them to know how we feel about them getting screwed, and I do suppose we owe them some beer.

Is there any chance of combining the Black and White balls again? The crowds seemed a little thin for how fantastic the music was, especially at the Black Ball. Maybe schedule the combined Ball for Friday and the big penthouse party for Saturday? (this was my first year, so if I'm suggesting the way it's been done in the past, my apologies.)
I promise to still dress up twice.
I should also say thanks to all those who put in the extra effort to wear something interesting, and to those who booted out the people in jeans and baseball caps.
What wonderful freaks we are.
Oh, and Mixtress Jackalope? Thought you'd want to see this:

The penthouse party is a private function and not an official part of Defcon.

Maybe I'm just old, but I just don't get pokemon. I am a bit of an otaku, but pokemon has never been interesting for me. Perhaps it's the lack of beshonin, or just the blantent marketing of the whole thing. The show is just a badly animated 30 min comercial for crappy toys.
Or am I missing something?

I'm with you on this one. I can't understand it, either. Maybe if I was that age, well, no, I wouldn't have been doing that at that age, either. <shrugs>

Ha...so I worked at a game store for most of the Pokemon height. I know how to play it. I also know how to turn parents off from buying it. I tell them "my pit bull, vs your pit bull." and they kinda just shy away.
It was invented by a japanese guy who noticed all the ponds and stuff near where he lived were getting filled in or drying out, so no one would collect bugs, etc. He wanted to give kids something to do.
And wow this is a strange thread.
