Hey there,
for those of you in the know....
can you let us know when the White ball sets will be out??

I'm trying to reconstruct what I played in the middle set for a cd.

i, too, am desperately awaiting this content. heh, remember... before the sets started i walked up to you (bink) with my MP3 player/recorder and asked if i could get a board patch. it was deemed unecessary since everything was being recorded (was it video as well as audio?) and would be out soon. heh, i want to re-live jackalope and the minibosses, man!

Things like this are community-supported, and do not necessarily follow a top-down approach like you find in businesses. It's not like these people get a cut of Defcon fees to provide the content and torrents.

"Volunteers, for volunteers, by volunteers." -- you get what you pay for. ]:>

now... if you bought them both beer at Defcon as a thank-you, and still are not getting good service, maybe you bought them the wrong beer-- i mean, then you might have something.

In addition to what Cotman said, part of this is that Bink doesn't usually patrol the forums, unlike us, he has a life. I just put this up incase any of his friends have it up on servers yet. I'll start using my connections to get the sets, Deviant.

Ah, I thought that all the tapes and such were Defcon "sponsored" -- I didnt realize that it was volunteer based. In that case, I would be happy to help out next year! (or this year if there is anything I can help with)

We're just waiting for the sets off of the mixing board at the b/w balls. Bink is the sound guy who recorded 'em :)

I am sure that closer to DC15 they will be looking for goons for the info booth and some of the event organizers may be looking for peeps to help. Defcon is one of those places where the more you put in, the more you get out of it.

I am pretty sure your goal wasn't to piss the staff off, but honestly, this pissed me off.

We generally plan for DEF CON for nearly a full year. As I mentioned before the Sr. Staff started planning DC 15 less than 30 minutes after the end of closing ceremonies this year.

Planning and prep for MOST of the staff kicks into high gear 5 to 6 months before DEF CON. I say most because some are in high gear before that.

We come to DEF CON (the staff pays our own way to get there by the way, just like you), bust our asses for four days (yep, we are there all day Thursday too), get little to no sleep. Deal with the hotel management, hotel security, rent a cops, law enforcement, problem children, drunks, whiney fuckers, and last, but certainly not least, the fire marshal the entire time we are there...all for the payment of a spiffy red t-shirt....that smells like death by Sunday I should add.

I am sorry we are too disorganized for you, but do you mind if we take a couple of weeks off of DEF CON to actually get back to real life? Teh Jebus.

Advice to members:

At the zoo, they may have signs like this to warn people about poking bears, but poking Chris is worse, because in addition to what bears can do, he can talk and write replies, so:

"Don't poke the Chris."

You have no concept of what it takes to put together Defcon. I bet God is looking down on the staff saying "If I had you guys with me way back when, I could have created the heavens and the earth in 7 minutes, not 7 days."

Now tell Chris you can run Defcon on your Mac.

So, if we get a doppleganger to take his place in life, maybe we can get him to visit?

Seriously though, if/when you talk with him, I'd like to know what could be done to the forums to encourage him to visit. (This does not mean it will happen, but it might give us some ideas.)

Well, they are planning to release a video game called Defcon. Maybe it will be available for Macs.

.

I will try. The current word on the street about the sets is that they are still in DVD format, and are awaiting for the audio files to be grouped and uploaded.

I think you all missed my point. Notice I said POST defcon.. I didnt intend to piss anyone off, but instead offer my help to get things going. I think Defcon itself is very well put together -- but I would think that the pre-cut videos should be posted within a day or two, and recorded video not too much longer than a couple weeks.

I realize that is a lot of work, but since DefconTV didnt work, I really am looking forward to seeing the talks that I either missed due to attending another, or because I was still drunk.

And you OBVIOUSLY missed mine. We busted ass leading up to and during con. Relax for a couple of weeks while we wind down. Jesus.

Which part of is post defcon always this dis-organized? is offering to help out? That was your original post. That's the one that pissed me off. Nowhere in there do you offer to help out.

I didn't comment on your later offer to help out. That is all well and good, but stating that we are disorganized after overseeing the controlled chaos that is DEF CON is a real slap in the face. It's insulting.

heehee,
you obviously were lucky and got sleep during con! Anyone who was Jackalope or a goon or anyone working at DC didn't.

"Don't poke the Chris."

Nobody can truthfully say that there was no warning sign posted.

This illustrates one of the suggested methods for getting along on the forums and at Defcon:
If you make a mistake, admit it, learn from it, appologize, move on.
Attempting to enter into "mitigation of circumstances," or "arbitrartion of fault/blame," or, "revisionsistic history," tends to lead to problems. These tend to be selected when a person's ego gets in the way of these steps:

If you make a mistake, admit it, learn from it, appologize, move on.

And for those that are newish to the forums; each moderator works rather independent of the others. If you create an issue with one mod, going to another mod is unlikely to get things reversed. You have to deal with the mod that brought up the issue. (I think we have at least 15 users with mod privs on the forums.)

Why don't we publicize the list of mods like twe publicize the rules?
Simple:
1) Suck-ups have no idea who to brown-nose when they register
2) New users don't know who is a mod, and who isn't, so there is hope they will behave better with someone who appears to be a stranger-- especially if they don't know if they are or are not a mod. (Kind of like how people carrying concealed handguns in Texas seems to cause people to act more polite with strangers.)
3) Mods don't get bugged with FAQ in PM so much; questions get sent to forum e-mail (defconforums@gmail.com) instead.

This has been brought to you by the letter "D" and the number 14.

<suck-up>

ya know I been on the intertubes a while, not much for the forums usually, I don't feel I sound too good on them. But I do know when to say "sorry" and run

I just wanted to interject that post DC15 seems pretty together.
I have been thinking on how nice it is that folks are willing to share the data. I got the BlackHat
DVD (and seeded until noone was using it.) I know that contributing getting more involved
in a con is the way to meet folks and maybe I can find a way to help out for DC15.
I was just showing up at DC14 (my first) and folks were great.

</suck-up>

and Chris (*no pokey*) I think that "wtf?" has been obsoleted but "teh Jebus?"
That made me start laughing, and I must share:smile:
