All,

Welcome to another exciting episode of Defcon pre-season madness. This
will be the 15th year of Defcon and I'd really love to see some exciting
stuff this year. We'll have the same team working in the contest area
this year as we have in the past: Myself (russ), pyr0, and dans. You can
contact any of us during the con if you have questions or need help with
something.

In order to understand our space, power, seating, access requirements
for this year, I need you all to fill in the following information.
Please get this back to me within the next two weeks. Also, anyone that
has ideas for new contests should contact me immediately so we can try
to make arrangements or get approval. The contests have become a staple
of the con and it's important to keep these things evolving. More
details will come out in the coming months, but please keep checking on
the forums and get this preliminary information back to me as soon as
possible.

-Russ

NOTES:

* Power requirements should be defined now. If you fail to tell me that
you need power, you will not likely have it.
* Request the hours that you'd like to run your contest. But please
understand that in some cases I may need to move your hours slightly so
that we don't have conflicts between two very loud contests.
* In order to maintain some level of order in the contest area, only the
Amateur CTF folks will be allowed to play music. Otherwise it all
becomes a bunch of white noise.
* I hope to have a stage with a microphone available again this year.
Please plan on utilizing this during each day of your contest.
* We WILL have another pre-con meeting for ALL contest POCs. I'll send
out more information on this later.
* All contest information will be duplicated on forum.defcon.org. If you
have questions, you can always try there first.
* Sky boxes are NOT available for contest use. Don't ask. Contests must
take place in the contest area. However, if your contest has been
tremendously successful for the past 3-4 years and you want to try
something like the Lock Pick Village, please get in touch with me. But
understand, you MUST have a very successful track record in order for me
to go to bat for you. The sky boxes are expensive and will be used for
the most deserving events.
* Ensure that all the individuals working at your contest area
understand the need to provide updates to the Information Booth on a
consistent basis.
* Contest POCs are responsible for their own badges, as always.
* If you feel you're going to need early access to the event area prior
to the start of the conference, I need to know now. Get me names of the
people you'll be bringing in with you for set up. But understand that
this is not really a time to "hang out" and "chill". We want to work
with you to get set up, but we've got to keep things under control until
we've been approved to start the conference. If you fail to provide me
with names, you will not be allowed in early. Period.

Be sure to give me ALL the details you think we should know.

It is a new month, and here is a reminder:

If you are running a contest/event or planning to run a contest/event make sure you talk to Russ about it if you will need any resources at con for your contest/event such as room, power, network, or something else like these.

Additionally, there will likely be another call for information where you are asked to describe your event and provide links to related information to the people that will be putting together the DC15 program.

Have your information ready! Don't forget to send it to Russ as requested above.

The more you wait, the worse your chances at getting exactly what you want.

Sun Tsu: When considering a ground of contention, it is important to get there first.

Thanks Cot! If you haven't sent me info, you will not likely be in the Defcon program.... and frankly, that would suck because NO ONE WILL KNOW ABOUT YOUR CONTEST. Get off your lazy contest organizing butt and send me some information.... please.

If you really WANT people to know about your contests I would recommend send your infos to me as well. :-D Otherwise, I can not do the RSS's or Mailing List notices to get you actual people to participate.
