View Full Version : Quark's (and Star Trek Experience) closing :(
I just picked this up of of the nerd "news wire."
http://trekmovie.com/2008/06/29/star-trek-the-experience-closing-in-september/
Looks like we are going to have to give Quark's a good old send off.
Warp Core Breech anyone?

This saddens me more than I thought it would. :(
This is really sad. Quark's has been apart of the my groups defcon experience since dc9 and it's where we start our sunday nights. We'll have to give the place a real send off.

I don't know. We've done some things that should have gotten us banned for life but haven't. The first year we were there, we consumed more breaches as a group than we thought were humanly possible. During all of this, we were actively engaging the folks walking around in costume. That night I think there was a ferengi and two klingons (one male and one female) walking around.
One of our group started a lovely round of flirting with the woman dressed as a klingon. I would have thought she was just being polite, but she kept coming around to talk to us. This progressed through the evening until he finally said something that I guess shocked her. He whispered something in ear to which she smiled, blushed (hard to do in the dark makeup) and left. She never came back. We were sure that we were getting thrown out at that point but nothing came of it.
To this day, he won't tell us what he said. Personally, I think he just doesn't remember.
I remember the first year I went (Defcon 10), we had a waiter named Greg who was nothing but nice to us rowdy bunch of geeks. I also vaguely remember drinking at least one full sized warp-core myself on occasion
So what night do we want to descend on Quark's? I plan on going as much as I can! It is fairly decently priced food for the area, and I am sure they will let plenty of our antics slide now that it is certain doom for the poor place.
Either way I am packing my Star Trek uniform
In honor of the occasion, this is the infamous Quark's story that has haunted me ever since I first went to Quark's durring defcon.

Seconded. That is classic.
Yeah, I'm really surprised at how great the service has always been, given the rowdiness and tone of the crowd that can gather. Though there has been a couple of years when the food wasn't the greatest.

Quarks on Wednesday night after SushiCon 4.0 anyone?those of us who are heading out to the DEFCON Shoot in the super-super early AM hours are likely going to want to call it quits right after sushi (and would probably be better in the desert the next day if we aren't super-dehydrated)
in the past, hasn't Quark's been a Tuesday night affair? maybe i'm remembering wrongly. that would be a great option, i think.
I was considering doing it on Thursday or Friday night. I enjoy my cycle of Drink, Ride, and Drink. This is most enjoyable  I think there is somewhere cheap to get tickets, I will need to find that as I plan on riding one last time.

Might want to go all out and do the back stage tour they have. I'm considering that as an option since it's going away and I'd love to see the tech behind the walk through part of the experience.
Also might be worth scheduling a group event, for cheaper tickets and coordinated rides.

Thursday night is probably good too, though not sure when the trekkies arrive.

It's $32 on top of the price of admission to the ride. I'll give them a call and found if there's a group discount for the tour and ride.
Thursday night isn't such a good idea due to the Toxic BBQ....

No discount for doing both the tour and the ride in a group. Closest thing includes pictures in the captain's chair and in the borg chamber and comes in at $85. Tours run at 12:30, 2:30, 4:30 and 7:15.

"Quarks," the unofficial meeting that was often organized on the forums, was often organized by Octalpus. This was the gathering that included many forum regulars. However, that gathering was specific to Quark's has not necessarily included both the behind the scenes tour, and the normal star trek experience.
In the past, this has taken place on Tuesday and maybe Wednesday, though I never went as part of that group either. I have been on the Star Trek Experience a few times, but other shows became a better waste, err, value for my money, like Penn and Teller. :-)

And in your choices of entertainment, this has been a wise choice. As far as motion simulator rides go, the experience is not that good of one.
However, the breach is something not to miss. You never forget your first.

You have to drink a full one by yourself, too. Well..I may be just kidding. I did anyway a couple years ago, and that was by accident, and lead to some serious hilarity later.

I wouldn't doubt that. I don't drink much booze while at Defcon; I usually rent a car or minivan and act as a designated driver, so my drinking has been limited to friday night and saturday night when I won' be driving.

I can't imagine trying to wake up and fire lots of ammo the morning after i had sushi and then poured tons of blue liquor over top of that in conjunction with lots of simulator rides. I'd hurl in the shell ejection port of the M-60 or something.

Thursday after TTBQ would interfere with The Summit
