SUMMARY:European regulatory trends for Artificial Intelligence: same impact
  on US as GDPR?
DESCRIPTION:My paper focuses on how the European Ethics Guidelines for Trus
tworthy AI will be implemented – whether directly or indirectly and if a
t all – in Silicon Valley. My perspective incorporates also other relate
d EU regulation that affects AI\, in particular the GDPR and the deriving
obligation to implement the principles of “privacy by design” and “p
rivacy by default” (Art. 25 GDPR).\n\nDuring my Mozilla Fellowship (Apri
l 2020 through April 2021)\, I work on finding out what impact the new Eur
opean Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI will have on US businesses\, ho
w useful they find these\, as well as how they’re evaluated by activists
\, and whether we therefore will see a similar trend with them as we saw w
ith the GDPR. I want to share with DEFCON Privacy Village an insight into
my research and what this means for Silicon Valley positions on future EU
 regulation.\n\nSpeaker(s): Julia Reinhardt\n\nLocation: Crypto & Privacy V
