  • Capture the Packet - Year 3 [Black Badge]

Capture the Packet will return in its third year.

This time as a black badge event.

Capture the Packet is a Network Analysis & Cyber Forensic Skill Assessment Suite. At Defcon it is utilized as a fast paced challenging game to allow computer, network, novice and professionals a chance to show off their intellect, packet capture, decode and game solving skills.

"Search Network Traffic, locate clues, solve puzzles and Score"

    1. Teams may not exceed 2 members.
    2. If anyone outside your team of two provides assistance you will be de-queued.
    3. Each individual may only compete once. You can not join other teams, change shirts, wear hats and sneak another chance.
    4. This is NOT an attack game if you're looking for that, go register for CTF. This is a discovery challenge. You may NOT attack any service, team(s), or the network. Anyone caught will be immediately removed/de-queued from the game and publicly shamed.
    5. The game will consist of 12 main rounds and 1-2 final rounds. Each player/team will compete in one main round. Top scoring players/teams move on to the final round(s).
    6. Remember you're at Defcon. While we try to plan for everything, it is a hacker convention; there are often unforeseen equipment and personnel failures.
    7. The Grand Prize for CTP is dependant on our sponsor, If available it will be delivered at closing ceremony, and you agree to photo-ops. :-)
    8. Rulings: The Grand Master Puba of CTP (me) has the final word where ambiguity may or may not exist, any problems that arise will be dealt with severely.

    Note:
    I. We are not responsible for your equipment (computer), you or anyone associated with you at anytime -ever.
II. While this is a fast paced jeopardy style quick paced game you can expect your skills to be pushed to the brink - just ask last years winners.
III. Traffic on the CTP network often reflects traffic of corporate and home networks, some nice, some not so nice. We are able to deliver you a more realistic and challenging view into traffic on the "Internet" so "Expect the Unexpected"
IV. Don't Cry: if you have team mate failure, hardware, software, layer 8, mental or logical issues you can only play once unless you WIN the round.
