DEF CON Forums - DCG441382 - Dundee, Scotland

Summary and Leadership Structure: The idea of a DCG Dundee has been talked about for many years now. Dundee has a long history of hackers with the Ethical Hacking Degree at Abertay University. There is already a large community of hacking students/graduates in Dundee thanks to the Abertay Ethical Hacking Society and the security conference they run every year called Securi-Tay. While there is already a community for students, there is a real lack of cybersecurity groups for the wider Dundee cybersecurity community. The organisers of DC441382 will be Sarah (Information Security Consultant at Waterstons), Mark (Senior Security Consultant at CISCO) and Jamie (Ethical Hacking Lecturer at Abertay University).

Meetings: We are intending to hold meetings on the last Thursday of every month and are likely to be in the Dundee local pub, St Andrews Brewery. Exact details have still to be confirmed regarding the pub however if not in St. Andrews Brewery, the meeting will take place in one of the many other pubs in Dundee. The meetings will mainly focus on sharing work expertise and talking about projects we have completed or are currently working on.

Areas of Special Interest: As mentioned the meetings will focus on the attendees sharing their work expertise. However, we will also be relying on community input from the Scottish Infosec community and graduates.

Current Projects: Some projects we are currently working on are hardware hacking, Car hacking over dab radio, Bug bounties, evaluation of Scottish HEI's information security policies, Rubik cube cryptography, interactive tabletop workshops and many other things. Between us, we also have a fair bit of lockpicking equipment so will likely run workshops on lockpicking.

Cool Things About Us: We have quite a broad knowledge area and a range of expertise. A large part of the meetup will be about knowledge transfer and with one of the organisers being a lecturer at Abertay there will be discussions about the next generation of hackers and how to keep the course up to date.
