RE: Chimera project Memo: To the good Doctor Thank you for the update. The program's progress is a tribute to your efforts. I would like to tour the facility and address the workers. I will be on site at 23:15 your time. Please gather workers in the harvest room prior to my arrival. I will be punctual. *End of memo* Devon pressed “send” on his cell phone. Devon August was the man corporate contacted when projects had dark features. When problems became serious, and immediate hard solutions were needed, solutions that need to be discrete, when they needed someone who could navigate treacherous legal matters forcefully without getting caught. If Devon left a trail of bodies, destroyed property, as long as a trail of evidence did not lead to the company or its principles, he was sanctioned. Devon’s salary was very generous, more than enough to secure his loyalty and discretion but Devon knew people like him had a shelf life. He was 59 years old he had achieved a retirement age in a vocation that did not allow for retirement. He knew too much about too many important people for him that meant the would be a day not to far of when a car would run him over, something in his food would cause a heart attack, a car he was driving would have a terrible accident Devon was not part of one of the elite families running the trans-national pharmaceutical company backing this project. He was simply one step above a hit man. The military credentials and engineering degree he carried, got him the best jobs at the best pay. The presumption he was dependable and reliable, normally he was, but the profits in this program were too good to simply give away. To show his commitment to the project Devon even donated his own blood, as he was O-negative, a universal donorm to develop the human cells that would be injected to blend the pig/human DNA creating hybrid animals known as Chimera. Chimera were animals that possessed the vital organs which could be transplanted to a human recipient. The holy grail of chimeras would be a creature, that the good doctor claimed to have created, one possessed of the heart, lungs, kidneys, liver and a host of other consumable and desirable parts for one recipient to receive a complete complete overhaul without the risk of rejection recipient rejecting the transplanted organs.. Devon pushed the intercom Kevin and Jeff: “We leave in 5 minutes. I will meet you at the car.” Devon surveyed his den's large fireplace, toasty log fire, a Christmas tree trimmed in silver and gold with white lights, brown leather couches and a small library containing rare works of ancient warfare strategy. By tomorrow this would all be gone and Devon would engage in a new life. Devon tucked his security master key that operated all of the doors of the facility including both security elevators into his wallet, next to his security transaction cards for the suise accounts that held 1.3 billion pounds. Soon yes very soon… Lance On the second day of December 2024, Lance Williams began one year incarceration for felony embezzlement at the category D Thames prison in London, England. Earlier that year, Lance told his solicitor and barrister he was innocent of the charges he was simply a low level accountant in the avalanche of prosecutions of a corporate ponzi scheme but their response was to take the deal the state offered. Invest Horizons, the hedge fund and investment company lance worked for had been subject to a sweeping investigation of the principle partners for fraud and embezzlement and the rats were jumping off the ship. Everyone was taking deals to testify against everyone else. failure to plea to the charges would result in a risk of far greater punishment and he could not afford the legal fees to roll the dice. In fact his Solicitor Lenard Minsk had a set of large wooded six sided dice and in the drab legal office he made, Lance rolled them: The dice came up a loss. Lance cried the day he plead guilty in court he grieved that he put his s Olie surviving parent through an ordeal and for all the work he had put into becoming an accountant because part of the plea bargain was he would never again work as an accountant. Lance's father Malcolm had been in court with all the support his big heart could bring. After 26 years of life lance experienced sorrow, the truth that he disappointed and humiliated his father and as a small non vi Olient man was going to prison for a year where his future was uncertain where the male strum of personal destruction might only get magnitudes worse. The day Lance began incarceration, he met Walter Bampefylde, a 60 year old criminal serving time for a bank robbery gone bad but who had spent most of his criminal life as a pickpocket on the bustling streets of London. Walter said “there are no bad jobs, just bad partners” . None of them should been caught. I should’ve stayed a fingersmith but I couldn’t resist the lure of big money. Walter recommended Lance to the guards as a custodian and Lance spent the rest of his time mopping and sweeping, playing cards with Walter and learning from Walter the fine of being a fingersmith. Lance’s father visited once a month, and Lance was filled with gratitude and shame. Lance would survive this and somehow redeem himself to his father. Then three weeks before his release date Lance found out his father had passed away. His cousin Olie came on the day dad would have been there. Olie said I’m sorry about your pa, everybody loved him you know. I gathered what I could, I have his car and some things and you were on his savings account, there was a little bit of money there. I would ask you to stay with me but we have a small place and the twins are up all night. So when they release you come to the Royal Exchequer. I'm security there and I’ll have a job waiting. I put the car in a small parking garage that is not used so for a little while you can stay there while you get on your feet. For the remainder of his days, Lance wore the sorrow of his loss and grief. When the release date came he said goodbye to Walter, and told Walter he would be there when Walter was released as well as put money on his prison account until that day to make his life easier. Lance arrived at the Royale Exchequer Building located on Threadneedle and Kingsman Street in downtown London. The firm Lance had worked for sponsored a lunch for the employees in this building. Table talk during the lunch involved the history and characteristics of the building so he was generally familiar with the building and its history. The Royal X was fashioned in the neoclassical style with 7 three story tall greek columns at the front. Although destroyed by the fire of london, war and battered with lack of care by a series of poor owners the building had been rebuilt to its original grandeur with hope of a brighter future. Currently the building sported several flourishing ground floor restaurants, second floor luxury residential suites and the entire third floor offices occupied by Dark Pharaoh INC., a middle eastern company. Lance approached the threadneedle street security entrance there. It was one o’clock in the afternoon, the streets were flowing with traffic, small cars honking and bustling like a frenzied queue of insects doing the business of their queen. The sidewalks were packed with people trying to get back to their offices after lunch hour. There was a was a parking garage entrance on either side of the security entrance one open and being used in use the other the garage door barrier was down . The security door had a camera surveilling the street. Lance pressed the buzzer and waited. The door opened with Olie behind. Olie reached out clapped lance on the back of the shoulder and pulled him in through the door “How are ya? Come on in and sit down!” Lance followed Olie back to a small room with a large desk looking over a bank of security screens. Olie sat down at the desk in front of the screens. “Hey cuz, I put your dads car at the bottom of the garage on that side," Olie pointed to the side where the garage door had been shut. “If you want out and i'm not here, just drive up to the door, it will open auto-like to let you out, but you wont get back in till I show up, kinda an odd setup, no doors down there but it’ll be quiet ” Olie pointed - “Look, this is a key that gets you in and out that door pointing to a side door that went to non-used parking garage, the door you just walked in, and I'll show you later a gym on the second floor and a laundry housekeeping uses, so look I can give you 90 days then ya gotta have a place. You don’t want my place, the twins keep the whole building up. Ya got two hours and you’re washing dishes at The Brit, start work there till they kick you out. I'm sorry Cuz, best I can do. The other security guards know about our arrangement but if it becomes a thing they don’t know ok and you can tell the court officer ya live with us, Sally said she'd cover you if anyone calls or shows up... my guess is they won't. So go get settled, what stuff your dad had left is in there, here’s a flashlight and clock”. Lance looked at Olie “i'd be on the street Olie”. “Well now you're below it. This is a good job for me Lance, keep yourself out of the way”. Lance went out the door into darkness. LED light cut through the darkness. The road dropped steeply and was roughly two cars wide and it just spiraled down in the darkness. Lance felt as if he was descending into a dark night. It was as if he had entered an evil insect hive, where a brain deep inside brooded with malignant intent. He was creeped, out but his car was somewhere down here, so he took a deep breath and kept descending. He felt as if something was watching him, and it gave him the creeps, but his dad’s car was at the bottom and he had nowhere else to go. Soon he saw a glow up ahead then he rounded a corner into a small area three cars wide with a two meter plus ceiling height there was the car that would be his home. Lanella Lanella Breeves graduated top for her class at the University of Heidlberg, Germany in the field of transgenics. Her passion for biotechnology fueled her graduate and postgraduate studies. possessed of a dispassionate and cold intellect focused on elevating her career and achieving the highest success. She used the physical beauty granted to her by the gods of fortune as leverage whenever expedient her long blond curly tresses, athletic build , and nordic complexion was admired by many but all the while she calculated her advantages navigating her path to achieve success. She did not know her coworkers called her frosty if she had she would not have cared. Regarding project chimera she required discipline that all obey the strict compliance of cleanliness so that the germ wall was always well maintained between donors and recipients. In the last 5 years, the project had come along wellm and was now producing recipients that were living without antirejection meds. recipients that had received hearts lungs kidney liver skin eyes harvested from one donor animal. the longest lived donor was now two years older since the operation. This was a fantastic success. It was clear from her research that recipients could live normal lives with the grafted organs. The new challenge she accepted was developing a means of producing stem cells at an exponential rate in the donor animals to benefit the recipients. The application of which would benefit all of humanity and make her legacy one that would last a thousand years, would launch her into the history books as a titan amongst scientists, she would have the attention she deserved but seemed was always granted to her male counterparts. When her victory was complete her intellect brought in a new age where biotechnology granted a fountain of youth to the rich and hope to the masses. Upon recruitment she had made many harsh demands to ensure project success. All her demands were met without hesitation even though many demands were immoral, unethical and highly illegal. The demands were needed to speed the process for her part. It would have surprised her to know the funding for the project came from a reputable international pharmaceutical corporation that saw the value of longevity to be offered as a carrot to the rich and this company would descend to any level to obtain the power of the fountain of youth. Salley Salley was the head of the pig breeding barn. The mothers were implanted with very special mutant embryos that would be born pigs with implanted human genomes. Salley knew this project could save lives, but she did not agree with inhumane actions at this facility but there was nothing she could do about it now. The pay was incredible and the project provided luxury living quarters. There really was no escape; it was like she had signed a deal with the devil, and was now cursed. There was a brooding cloud over the workers of this project. It was like they were all pigs waiting to be slaughtered and have their parts used so others could live. Salley was left to her own after feeding, cleaning and providing exercise for the piglets . These pigs were genetically enhanced; they would grow to approximately 45.5 kilos and were very muscular with low body fat. While piglets were sitting, she watched movies. Science-fiction and comediess brightened her time. In the last batch of piglets, she found herself being attached to a piglet she named Charlie, a white with black splotch marking. He was a handsome pig, but time was coming for slaughter, and that made Salley deeply sad. Salley would let Charlie out of his pen to watch movies, everything from Star Wars to romantic comedies. Star Wars was Charlie’s favorite, they must have watched it a thousand times Dr. Breeves was very fond of Charlie she made up names like “platypigy” and “piggypotomus”, and would come several times a day to visit Charlie, entertaining the Dr. with his antics. Lance had 3500 pounds from his dads estate, and he made 12.21 pounds per hour washing dishes in the brit grill and pub eatery upstairs. Olie had given him an access key card to a laundry room and gym on the second floor where the residential suites were located, the only request: “Don’t get caught”. Olie gave him the dead times at night when nobody used laundry or gym; this allowed him to shower and have clean clothes. Lance wanted to know what that mouse was up to so, he ordered from the auto parts store a device that was both a camera and an audio recorder, equiped with a long, bendable lead for the camera and a view screen. Although not devised for rodent espionage, this was the perfect tool to look in the mouse hole, sure he could have sealed the hole up, but what if he killed the ratty doing it? Lance got on the ground, laid on his side and inserted the camera into the mouse hole, he was able to put pressure camera stem to wiggle through and found the camera was in another room beyond the wall (against the side of the hole with the flexible lead), there was a glow coming from beyond the side of the room so he turned of his camera light from the light in the room beyond, he could see the vague outline of a loading dock looked like bars in front a elevator door then lights started coming on, he thought “mousy did not turn those lights on”. Then, he saw a large delivery truck drive down the ramp there was just enough room for the truck to turn around. He knew he should withdraw his camera, but he couldn’t help continuing to watch this scene unfold was in the category of everything Olie asked him not to do. He was beginning to suspect Olie knew more about what was going on than he let on. The driver got out, walked back to the loading dock and jumped up and on to the loading dock he had been carrying a gym bag which he threw on the ground . The passenger jumped up onto the loading dock and went to a button and said “delivery, we are ready for your pick up then he and the driver opened the gym bag took out and put on tyvek hooded coveralls, yellow latex boots goggles and breathing masks as they were finishing the elevator door opened and two like dressed people walked out waved a key card at the security node their side of the door and barred door opened slightly then the driver turned and opened the door to the back of the truck moments later gurneys with what looked like hospital equipment emerged with two additional figures also dressed with coveralls and safety equipments six total gurneys when all were loaded to the elevator cell looking door closed the elevator doors closed two people went into the back of the truck driver and passenger entered the truck and the truck left but as he closed the door the waded up bundle of coveralls mask and bootys fell out and hit the floor Lance thought I would like to ask Olie what was happening as the truck drove by in the sheen of the side panel of the truck so the outline of a man door in the wall in front of him was not visible on his side it had been bricked over. As he set back he withdrew the camera from the h Olie and sat there. What did it mean? What was he going to do? Was it even safe to stay here? He got up and guessed where the door was and started tapping. Thud thud thud thonk - taking a pencil from his car he drew the outline of a door, gentle tapping produced the outline of a door. Yes this outline was about where he thought he saw the and there seem to be an outline in the brick like somebody was trying to cover something up. This was like an edgar allen poe story where a wrongdoer buries his victim in an underground cellar forever Lance went up to the security guard room where the guard was on patrol. It was Christmas eve he wound walked the restaurant courtyard yard till 1:00 AM, Lance pulled out a blank security card and coded it with the master key code. Then, Lance left the building, circled around the block and made for the security entrance for the door that led to the parking garage where the suspicious activity occurred. He slid the key through the security pad the door clicked he opened the door let him through he descended til he saw the loading dock there was no stopping now but would the card open the elevator lance found the discarded coveralls pu on all of the equipment and went up to the elevator waived his key it worked the door opened and he entered there were only two buttons he pressed the bottom one.the elevator doors closed and he descended . He felt a sickness well up in him, that feeling of descending into an alien insect hive hit him in his throat and he was overwhelmed with a feeling of doom. The doors opened and he was in a corridor with bright overhead lighting and white painted ribbed steel plates that made a dome a meter above his head.he couldn’t see anybody so he stepped out in the room. The corridor continued to the left and right a tunning 50 meters each way with big doors the kind you would see ata hospital on either side Lance was so afraid he swooned down the corridor. He was sweating under his paper coveralls He opened the door. The room’s light was dim, but he could make out rows of gurneys, each one having several machines around it, tubes and wires going from the machines to the body, the smell of disinfectant nauseated him. He felt off balance, walking closer. A man was on the gurney, tubes going in his nose and mouth, scars on his head, a large scar down his chest. All the gurneys had bodies, all the bodies had similar scars. Lance did not realize he’d continued walking across the room, he was in shock, breathing was difficult. He was lost, stumbling through a door, walking down another corridor, a lady puled at his coverall - “Help me push this cart”. He mumbled words uncertain, a voice in his mind saying “help her”. Moving down the corridor, he was starting to come to, he saw the elevator door opening, two large men followed by a third smaller well-dressed man, now exiting the elevator. “Good doctor, what are you doing? Well… Never mind…” He turned tot he two large men, “Hold this door”. The well-dressed man brought his cell phone up and dialed a command. Lanella felt a hot burning in her arm, blood. She grasped, an ice pick in her arm, she felt in moving through, blood oozing from the clenched hand. The small mac came forward, looking at Lanella, Lance passed out against Devon. Devon looked at Lanella and laughed “How are you still alive? Well, you won’t be long again, hold this door, I’ll be back in a moment and we’ll leave”. Devon moved down the corridor to obtain the files from the database that would contain the information he wanted. Rounding the corner, one of the guards said “These are not the pigs you are looking for, they may pass”. A voice in Lance’s head said “Get up, come with us”. Lanella helped him up, they all moved to the elevator, Lance took the wallet in his hand, pushed a button, and the doors closed. As they did, he heard “Stop them you idiots!” coming from down the corridor. Charlie knew the building was going to be destroyed, he had tried to save this humans, and with Charlie, they found a car left by the three men and made it to safety. Months later, Lance reflected that Charlie had developed a peaceful environment, using the money left to them by Devon. In a woodland setting, the three developed, growing in value of respect of other and self, validating the choices and differences of those around them. Charlie’s psychic power grew with this wisdom.
