  • Requesting DC201 subforum

    The new DC201 group, founded march 2017 has no relationship to the old, now defunct group. We own the old domain dc201.org, and defcon201.org. We are now the active North Jersey group.

    This group is based on Hoboken, NJ, not paramus.

    Hello,

    I see that https://defcongroups.org/dcpages.html shows the location for DCG 201 is in Hoboken, so this confirms your claim.

    I see: https://forum.defcon.org/forum/gener...201-paramus-nj

    The present description is:

    Would you like to change the description of the forums to include the link to defcon201.org as well? If you have a twitter feed, we can add a lnk to that in the forum description too. Same with FaceBook or other similar resources.

        Hey TheCotMan,
        I'm Rex, another member of the new 201 group. When you get a chance, could you update the descriptions as per the following social media info?

        WEBSITE: www.DEFCon201.org / dc201.org redirects
        TWITTER: @DEFCON201NJ
        QUITTER: quitter.no/DEFCON201
        MASTADON: https://hostux.social/@defcon201
        IRC: #DEFCon201 on Freenode.net

          Confirmation request sent to the PoC on https://defcongroups.org/dcpages.html for DC201. Waiting for confirmation before making changes to avoid risks of social engineering.

              Right, but we still have the same problem. The main site page for DCG ( https://defcongroups.org/dcpages.html ) lists information for DC201 as:
              Originally posted by PAGE

              • Website: Follow us on quitter.no/defcon201 for meeting dates and times.
                Website Coming Soon.
              • DC201 Meets:MakerBar (38 Jackson St 3rd floor Hoboken, NJ)
              • Description: Our mission at DEFCON 201 is to help you learn new things, meet new people, mentor others in areas you may be strong in, and provide some cohesion within the hacker culture and it's members in the general New Jersey area.
              • Interests: Our space, MakerBar, has a ton of equipment from lock picking, wood etching to car repair. We are working on bringing WiFi functions to our space and we are also focus on helping to bring technology to low income people of all backgrounds. We also interact with the local Drone fan clubs.
              The online published PoC (authoritative) is sidepocket@protonmail.com and there is still no response to the email sent to that address.

              So, what are the options:
              If I just accept any users claim to be a new PoC for a DCG which does not match the PoC onthe main DCG listing web page, then anyone can hijack anyone else's DCG and get a forum to pretend to be them.

              This removes "trusting the client" as an option, as it is terrible security, and creates risk for social engineering.

              What viable options are left:
              1) Get the main site to list your website and/or a new PoC, and I can contact that new PoC to confirm it: https://defcongroups.org/dcpages.html
              2) Contact the DEF CON Groups coordination person, and tell them to add a todo for me in planning under the "DEF CON Groups" space. (This is not on the forums; they should understand what this means and know what it means.) This would allow the department head of DC Group coordination of con (or their second) to make the decision they can make, and let me know of that decision while they wait for the main website person to update the DCG page https://defcongroups.org/dcpages.html

                I did get a reply from the PoC email I sent on Jun 3, mentioning GI_Jack as vouched-for authoritative for changes.
                Forum description for the forum for the DC201 for Hoboken has been updated with both URL mentioned for DC201.
                "rxdc" was not explicitly mentioned in the email, but going to the websites shows links to other social media, and links to those from the forum description can be added to this forum description:
                * FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1743426829004414/
                * Twitter: https://twitter.com/defcon201nj
                * Quitter: https://quitter.no/defcon201
                * Mastadon: https://hostux.social/@defcon201
                * IRC: ircs://chat.freenode.net/defcon201:6697

                It looks like:

                Since the PoC vouched for GI_Jack, and GI_Jack gave confirmation on website, and the website includes the links to the social media that rcdx mentioned, all of those have been added.

                I think we have all of the links requested, including social media and revised URL to website.

                Please let me know if you see otherwise.

                If you want new social media links or changes to existing links, update your main site with new URL, and anyone can let me know, or have the PoC or GI_Jack (by granted proxy from PoC) post the change desired, and it can be applied.

                Thanks for tolerating this careful checking -- it really helps reduce certain social engineering risks.

                  Thank _you_ for being careful, and sorry for any confusion this might've caused. See you at the con :)
