  • Even hackers need a mental vacation!

We continue to explore what hackers are about, but even a hacker needs a mental distraction (I like to call it mental masterbation) away from the trade. In the movie "Sneekers" for example, they played a bit of dirty Scrabble right in the middle of the feature film to relax their complex neural net of constant code contagion.

My personal favorite mental diversions are chess, and online gaming. I especially enjoy a good pro game of Microsoft Links 2003 online golf. Besides the "usual" vacation, good book, or other commonplace off time distractions, what do you enjoy as your "mental masterbation" escape?

America's Army. It's fun watching the bad guys get hit with the 82A1. I also do small wood working projects for the wife.

Travian.us. Build armies, destroy other villages, rinse and repeat.

          I feng shui my hair.
A third party security audit is the IT equivalent of a colonoscopy. It's long, intrusive, very uncomfortable, and when it's done, you'll have seen things you really didn't want to see, and you'll never forget that you've had one.

Writing manga reviews and occasionally interviews for an all female comic book based e-zine. Nintendo DS. Movies. IM. Drinks. Looking for new tunes to play at you guys with. Planning the next con trip. Learning linux. I do too much all at once, not sure if any of it would qualify for a mental break, because I do all of that pretty much on equal amounts of time. I just switch it up a lot.

I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

Actually speaking of animals, I saw a herd of about 25 deer coming back from Wildwood NJ on the Atlantic City Express Way tonight. The herd contained one albino deer which I thought was interesting. Should have stopped but when you are doing 80mph, in the middle of a herd of deer, with a bunch of people behind you also doing 80mph it didn't seem like a good idea. At least I didn't see the New Jersey devil. Before the hunters in our group chime in they were all too small to shoot; little bigger than babies less than a year old for sure.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. This applies to making babies, hacking, and youtube videos.
