  • Ubuntu Netbook Remix to be announced, EEE +1

I ran across this while researching non-Xandros OS options for my incoming EEE, and am pretty excited to see how it turns out. Canonical is to announce its so-called Netbook Remix branch of Ubuntu in a few days:

Well it's official, screenshots and press release follow:

I was hoping it would be an announcement of hey come download the ISO, not hey wait for it to be released with a new laptop, though. :/

Also I was really hoping they'd do something more minimalist that wouldn't cluter up limited real estate, but it could work better than first impressions.

Go there, he has instructions on how to download and install the packages for it. It i pretty but a bit on the heavy side, since it's mostly just a set of themes for Gnome.

Gnome actually runs pretty well on the eee, once you turn off compiz. Lowering the font sizes helps as well.
