    Re: Hacker Karaoke

agreed. we are in no way trying to steal thunder and originally it was conceptually going to be offsite, but we thought long and hard and we want to keep as much fun as possible, and kudos to hackajar and the rest of the folks at karaokecon (I will try to make it f I can get out of works early) but as bascule said we were just wanting to do something onnsite that everyone can participate in and share in the lulz and all the epic wins and fails provided by everyone :)

    Cheers,
    OD

How does the vocal stripper work? Do you do it real time? Do you have to have the mp3 ahead of time? How accurate is it?
        perl -e 'print pack(c5, (41*2), sqrt(7056), (unpack(c,H)-2), oct(115), 10)'

And if it IS in real time, what would the preferred method of MP3 transfer be? CD-R? I can't imagine he'd be real happy about sticking thumb drives in his slots (and if he is, someone please warn him?)

            Re: Hacker Karaoke

Regarding songs that aren't in our song list... we are taking requests. Provided the song isn't too obscure we'll try to track down a CD+G version so you actually get the lyrics.

We aren't going to have a realtime vocal eliminator available, sorry.

If you really want to go down this road with a super obscure song, I would suggest using the AnalogX vocal eliminator, which works as a Winamp plugin:

            http://www.analogx.com/contents/down...r/Freeware.htm

It allows you to adjust how aggressive it is. On some songs it works great. On others it either fails to fully remove the vocals or trashes the instrumentation.

You can play with the little slider thing and try to find a nice balance between how much of the vocals are removed and trashing the instrumentation. Keep in mind it is okay to leave some of the vocals in the track. This is particularly helpful when trying to sing without lyrics because you might forget when the vocals start/end.

If you really want to do this, an audio CD would be best. Just burn the song as a single track on a CD-R and we'll be able to play it.
