  • Titanium Chef - final details and call for judges

So... things seem to be shaping up well for Titanium Chef. I have three teams thus far who have expressed confirmed status...

Team Smoke - last year's champions

Team TOOOL - some of the lockpickers will by trying their hand at a totally new skill

Team Team Plus Plus - a late entry who just confirmed with me via PM

    logistics, etc

All teams are invited to meet up with me at the Reg area (same place people are meeting for things like standard BBQ food run, DC Shoot, etc) at 14:30 on Thursday. You'll be given printed sheets with detailed maps to the spot where we'll be in the park as well as a list of five potential theme ingredients. you dash out to your cars, and start talking ideas as you head to the store.

at exactly 15:00 i will send a txt message to all team captains stating the final word on what the theme ingredient will be. you have an hour to finish shopping and get to the park.

Cooking and plating, etc. from 16:00 to 17:00, judgment happens then.

    call for judges

since one team this year is fellow TOOOL members, i'm going to recuse myself from judging at all. i'll need a team of maybe a half-dozen people who will act as tasters/judges in my stead.

post here or PM me, email me, etc. with why you think you'd make a good judge. full disclosure - i'll possibly be inclined to bestow this honor on friends, etc. since it's a way of me giving them a gift of free food without having to pay for it.

it will all be fair, it will all be fun, and someone will go home with a Wii. see you there!

I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

Count me in. The fact that my body is round can attest to my love of good. My lack of a large checking/savings account can attest to my fondness of good quality food.

Re: Titanium Chef - final details and call for judges

As long as my hotel lets me check in a little early (I arrive at 6AM but the official check in time is 3) I plan on heading that way around two or three and would love to help out (though I also would love a ride from someone). If the hotel doesn't cooperate I probably won't get there until closer to 4.

One thing I just noticed was that my favorite new grocer here in phoenix, fresh&easy supposedly has a store on the south side of sunset park at eastern and warm springs. I plan on getting a bunch of stuff there and bring it over... the flyer for the 7th isn't up yet but here is an article from reuters that shows what deals might be found there (though since it isn't a holiday don't expect as great a deal but each week they usually have at least one good grilling deal). Usually their meat is above the quality one would find in their local supermarket but perhaps a little below some butchers or specialty stores.

Re: Titanium Chef - final details and call for judges

I have been debating with my Defcon roomie whether or not we will throw our hats into the ring to actually compete as cooks. I have always wanted take part in such an event. I just need to get balls top pack my knives and spices in checked baggage to say I am in.

If I chicken out, hey I would be happy to be a judge. As for qualifications I will just say I love all meat and that I know almost no one at Defcon, so I will be as impartial as it gets.

        So there.

          Ok, We are in

Just sent a PM to Deviant. If all goes well with our flight, car rental, etc., Team Tall Boy will join the challenge. We are arriving in Vegas day of the event, so you never know if things will work out.

Having never been to Sunset park before, I don't know what the grill situation will be. Will there be enough grill space for all the teams to share? Is there anyone who could loan me a small kettle grill if I promise to treat it with love? Will need it at the time of the challenge, aprox 15:00 to 17:00. Pretty please?

Team Tall Boy is confirmed in the walk-on spot. that fills the roster pretty much solid. i'll see everyone at 2:30 at the reg. desk on thursday the 7th. (except for Team Team Plus Plus who is driving right there)

you'll get an info sheet with details and maps, then i'll text you at 3:00 with the ingredient. see you then! wooot... you guys all fucking rule for participating.

i'd still like some judges, i must say. i have two or three solid and confirmed. you should make it to the park by 4 to witness cooking and taste at 5.
