  • The Original DC Forums Server Specs

Just thought I'd post the specs for the original Def Con Forums server when we hosted it a few years back. We must have hosted for 4 years or so. This box was not dedicated to the forums either. It originally was for personal use/fun and email/web services for friends and family.

    White box

Used (and free) 450mhz PII on a 440gx chipset
    512MB RAM PC100
    30GB 7200rpm IBM Deskstar ATA 66 HD - Master
2GB 5400rpm WD ATA 33 HD - Slave (for swap et al.)
    T 10/100 3Com Ethernet card.

    Debian GNU/Linux stable
    Customized kernel from kernel.org

Services: DNS, HTTP, HTTPS, IPTABLES, SSH, FTP, MYSQL, Email

Best uptime: 400+ days (We lost the original uptime > uptime.txt file)

Bandwidth was a private but shared T1.

Man that makes me feel bad. Just got another family hand me down from me mum, a P3 with 128 ram, 40g drive, and I just added a 128 vid card. The shocker is the PS is 185w, and there are two optical drives and a 3.5 floppy. I'm takin' bets on when the PS goes since adding the ATI. Do you know what a challenge it is to work in ME, or find viable wares for it?

You forgot the spec's on the squirrels that use to power it.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. This applies to making babies, hacking, and youtube videos.
