Official Announcement Revision A

"Every now and then when your life gets complicated and the weasels start
closing in, the only cure is to load up on heinous chemicals and then
drive like a bastard from Hollywood to Las Vegas ... with the music at
top volume and at least a pint of ether."
-- H.S. Thompson, "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"

Why? - Vegas baby, Vegas...

How? - Since I've taken forever getting this notice out I'll give you
folks the quick and dirty...

"It's a corny old gag about Las Vegas, the emporal city if there ever was
one, trying to camouflage the hours and retard the dawn, when everybody
knows that if you're feeling lucky you're really feeling time in its rawest
form, and if you're not feeling lucky, they've got a clock at the bus
station."
-- Michael Herr, "The Big Room"

Another year, another caravan. While most people are smart enough to
fly into Vegas there are still some of us who are crazy enough to drive.
Call it a love of the open road, an itch that can only be scratched by
crawling into a box with seatbelts and hurdling towards a destination at
top speed. The destination this year - as always - is Las Vegas, the
city of neon lights and dashed dreams. The reason: DEFCON. The world's
largest hacker convention.

So what made us come back for another year of leading the masses on an
exodus into the city of sin? 50% love of the open road, 50% sheer
stupidity. Of course, our main jump off point happens to be the Ontario
Mills Mall and this year we'll be meeting in the parking lot between the
Amerisuites and Dave And Buster's. Since we're rolling out by 8.30 PM
this year we encourage everyone to show up by about 7.30 PM so we can
get everyone up to speed on what the hell is going on.

A word of advice for those of you joining the caravan for the first time:
While you may have brought your FRS radio to communicate with the caravan
and it might seem like a wise idea to use it to find the meeting point we
encourage you to tune into 104.7 FM instead. Last year we had a couple
folks who thought they were being helpful by announcing over FRS to line
up on the other side of the parking lot. We were all quite confused when
couldn't account for half our drivers and fortunatley some of our people
got the confused people on the other side of the lot to us. The moral of
the story? 104.7 FM is the trusted form of caravan propaganda broadcast.
Accept no cheap invitations.

Once again at the Ontario Mills we will take the folks and group them off
as they show up. Yep, the good old "break into teams" excersise. Since
we plan on seperating everyone into groups as they show up this should
help take care of things like that little accident a couple of the folks
from San Diego had in the parking lot last year. BTW: I never found out
who that was... You guys won the Death Race portion of the caravan.
Contact us for your prize.

We'll depart from the Mills at 8.30 PM sharp. No acceptions. Every year
we come closer to following thru with that threat. Last year our
departure should have been 9.00 PM and we left at 9.15 PM. That's quite
a bit better than our previous hour behind schedule from the previous
year. From Ontario we're headed to the Barstow In-N-Out [Exit Lenwood]
to meet up with the Bay Area faction and grab some food. We strongly
suggest everyone tops off their tanks while stopped because we're getting
rid of the Baker stop. According to our calculations we can save up to
an hour on our trip time by dropping Baker, and it's only 160 miles from
Barstow to Las Vegas. Anyone with a modern car should be able to make it
on a full tank.

Once we hit Vegas we'll get off on Las Vegas Blvd [Making a left onto Las
Vegas Blvd.] and make a quick right on Harmon. At that point it's about
a half a mile to the Alexis where we can all commence with the drinking,
debauchery and such.

As always, during the whole fiasco we're going to be running Desert
Crossing Radio on the afformentioned 104.7 FM. Once again our big middle
finger to the FCC will play anything and everything. Except for Nu-Metal
because that stuff is shit...

We, the deathrace2k.org staff look forward to seeing everyone that was out
last year out there again. Let's make this whole load of happy horseshit
even bigger than it was last year...

"Do you think we'll get there by midnight?"
"Baby, we're going to be up five hundy by midnight!"

DR2K2 WiFi?

I am not too sure about the previous years, but will there be 802.11b/802.11a support this year amongst the caravans for chat, etc?

I intend on going with the OC/LA people.

If anyone is a habitual tailgator I'll give you the other end of my 20' CAT5 cable, 100mbps is best anyway!
