  • Anyone from Ireland?

I saw a thread entitled "anyone from northern Ireland?" in this section, but given the last post was in 2004, I'll avoid getting told off for Necroposting..

So I wish to find out if there is anyone else from North or South of the border who are active members here?

I saw Dublin 2600 being mentioned, but that it was unheard of for a while (and that was 4 years ago).

I'm only a student myself looking to get into the security field (N den ile hackzor yor pea sea harhar..) and when I get the time I'll be looking at some books, but one thing I have learnt is the world of Infosec moves much faster than any printer could keep up with.

So any info on any such events, or even someone that would be willing to have some correspondence with me, would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in Belfast every couple of years to visit my brother. Does that count?

That depends on the next time you intend on visiting your brother I suppose?

Shows that there was a DCG formed in October 2006 hailing from Maynooth, Ireland (DC35304) but they have no website. There is a POC listed as Cyberax
        cyberax262 (shift-2) gmail (right of ',') com

I created forums for all DCG listed on that page and try to keep it up to date. DCG forum spaces were added in 2007 (I think) and since then we have had no responses in [forum=320]the DC35304 forum[/forum].

Though it is not recent, 2006 is more recent than 2004. Hope this helps.

Of course this is near Dublin, not near Belfast, so there isn't much in the way of North with this DCG.

        Google says this too:

I've had one or two people from Ireland contact me asking about TOOOL membership... so if you want to get in touch with other people who have the hacker mindset and are into physical security, you can fire off a PM to me and i'll see if they want to talk with you directly. One fellow was in County Limerick. Not sure about the other.

I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. This applies to making babies, hacking, and youtube videos.

Maybe next summer. I'll have to see how the dollar fairs against the pound.

"Po'g mahon!" always works well if nothing else comes to mind. Although, to tell the truth, that and about three other words constitutes my full knowledge of Irish.

                    Re: Anyone from Ireland?

Heh heh so we've established those with Irish links, and most Irish themselves, know very little Irish :P

Ontopic: I keep hitting dead ends everywhere with regards to any sort of "scene" in Ireland.

The only things worth even looking at are sites like these

And as soon as I put the word "hacking" or "hack" into my searches, all I get is blogs about hacking iPhones.

Although this is worth a read, and the original article here

This is as close as I can find so far

And to be honest, it sounds a little tame http://www.trigraph.ie/trigraph/Main...al_Hacking.htm

                      Anyone know anything about this?

Page is gone, and the cached version doesnt have much, sorry, ANY info

                        Re: Anyone from Ireland?

You might want to see if you can get in contact with the guy who runs the Wavehunt in Dublin. We'd been in contact when he'd first set it up, and a few times since. He may at least know of some contacts in the north.
                        http://wavehunt.redbrick.dcu.ie/

There's also another Belfast hacker I've been chatting with irregularly on another forum. He seems to be in the same boat you are, no other local contacts and no real knowledge of any other hackers there. I'll see if I can get in touch with him, and see if he's interested in contacting you.

                          Ah thankyou Thorn :)
I've contacted the people at Redbrick, all I can do now is wait.

And if you could manage to get in contact with the other hacker from Belfast, it would be greatly appreciated

Also my google.ie searches keep getting poisoned by these people

You're welcome, and I've sent him a PM via that forum. As soon as I hear anything from him I'll let you know.

                              Re: Anyone from Ireland?

If you start a DCG in your country+city code (string concatenation) by following the information on the mail defcon site with POC and more, remind me about this and I can setup a forum for you DCG with the others here, and then move this thread to it.

                              http://www.defcon.org/html/defcon-gr...s-poc-faq.html
                              http://www.defcon.org/html/defcon-gr...roups-faq.html

I only make DCG forums for DCG listed here which have been added using the methods described in the above 2 links:
                              http://www.defcon.org/html/defcon-gr...ups-index.html

                              Good luck!
