    Low tech hacking?

    http://kfyi.com/cc-common/news/secti...rticle=4766345

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) _ A group of Santa impersonators are on the naughty list of Arizona law enforcement officials.

A YouTube video posted Monday shows four people dressed as Kris Kringle, white beards and red hats included, covering three speed and red light enforcement cameras in Tempe.

Two are covered with boxes - one decorated with Christmas wrap - and the third is blocked with what appears to be a red sheet.

I think it's more along the lines of vandalizing Government property.
A third party security audit is the IT equivalent of a colonoscopy. It's long, intrusive, very uncomfortable, and when it's done, you'll have seen things you really didn't want to see, and you'll never forget that you've had one.

There are traffic, red light and speed cam's.

      Then there are these:

I love the name of the company.

Aside from the privacy slippery slope they are cool looking. Wait until we get the AI drones.

      From the Philadelphia camera effort:

"The city has partnered with a private company to install and maintain the system. The city will designate a special committee to over see the system to make sure it is not abused."

Why can't they just name the company; God that vexes me so.

They already have the AI drones, except you can't see them unless you're wearing special sunglasses.

Yep, and the best movie that Rowdy Roddy-Piper has ever been in.

is it really vandalizing if nothing is broken but merely covered up? seems more like an "interfering with police business"... which may be prosecutable more severely than the former charge, i'll bet, depending on the D.A.

I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. haha, I am not surprised. They are currently in the works to install more than 200 speed camera's all over Arizona. Which is absolutely insane. i-10 is hit the hardest, and the thing that sucks the most about it is that people will see the signs they have put up for it, and hit their brakes until they are doing 45 mph, drive past them and speed back up to their previous 85 mph, yet the speed limit is 65 mph.

It has made the roads less safe, hordes of people hitting their brakes really fast is more dangerous than having people drive too fast at a constant speed.

It would be a stretch to claim that the cameras were "vandalized."

I think it's just as much of a stretch to consider it 'low tech hacking'.

The prank works this way: A driver will take down someone else's license plate number, print a high resolution image of that license plate, attach it to their own license plate, then speed by a speed camera on purpose, so that the fake license plate gets hit with the fine.

Before anyone thinks this is a great idea, before you fire up the printer you might want to know that this falls under counterfeiting laws in many jurisdictions, since it is the duplication of an official government-issued 'document', with intent to defraud.

Since the driver of the real plate is also getting charged with an infraction, it would probably also trigger charges of false reporting, and potentially even perjury charges, depending on the state laws.

The make, model and color of the car would of course have to match for you to really stick it to some one.

                              Low Tech.

One of those clear plastic license plate covers that has been sun baked yellow and/or dirty works even better and you can't be accused of fraud; just having a dirty license plate. It will get you stopped by a diligent police officer however as will the fake printed plate. In big cities however you will most likely get away with it for a long time due to a higher and more serious level of per capitol crime.

Another way is just place the license plate in your back window rather than the holder. The reflection and low light level will no doubt work just as well.

Dis-LAMER: Don't do this if it is your intention to evade traffic devices as that is illegal as well as wrong. Also remember driving is a privilege not a right.
