  • U3 drive wont open, getting error message

ok im gonna be honest with you.
i have U3 drive with some hacking software on the drive itself and it worked fine for awhile. but now i get this error message saying that the U3Cd drive is corrupted and the flash drive is not recognized by windows. i have tried to format it to fat32 but it cant. I've tried uninstalling the drivers but that doesnt work. any help is appreciated.
    thanks

Flash based memory has a limited number of writes before it fails completely. Chances are the device is just plain dead.

You do have a backup of it, don't you?
A third party security audit is the IT equivalent of a colonoscopy. It's long, intrusive, very uncomfortable, and when it's done, you'll have seen things you really didn't want to see, and you'll never forget that you've had one.

More than likely the software got munched by some anti-virus and it got a bit overzealous and would'nt properly unmount. I've had it happen to mine. Moving the tools to the CD-rom portion of the drive at least kept AV from trying any write cycles that might screw things up on removal

If you're thinking about taking it back to best buy, it can't be that old. There's no way it's been written to enough to kill it. Fire up a QtParted boot disk and format it that way. After that you should be able to reset the U3 software.
