Hey, just wondering. We purchase badges only at the hotel (I apparently don't have a room now) or is there someway we can get them before the con somewhere else? Basicly, in all forms....how can I get a defcon badge.

I don't mean to be a jerk here (that won't stop me though), but would it kill people to do a simple search of the forums prior to posting questions?

      badges?

Are the new badges designed yet? Maybe Oracle would donate them for free, Clipper chip included? The designs get better year after year, I'm really looking forward to this year!

Last year's were cool, but some of the speakers didn't like them. They looked out and saw people playing with their badges instead of paying attention. (And that was the hardware mods guy, he was damn interesting.)

My favorite (I've only been to 7-9 thus far), was 7. The metal ones were tough, looked good, and I'm certain could be quite useful if someone was creative.

            Sharpen the ol' edges up.

Hell, bend one of the sides back and forth until it snaps off, then make sure it's pretty flag by stepping on it. Instant handcuff shiv, for when the inconsiderate person who placed you in such a situation doesn't actually LOCK the cuffs, just closes them.

Could also be used to pull up the tab on canned beverages, although some drastic mods would probably have to be performed to make it into a bottle opener.

Hmmm... it would be great to have a badge that was designed from a functional bottle opener. Though it wouldn't get used at the con, except in the hotel rooms... I'd buy that for a dollar.

When we buy the badges at the front, can one person go represent and buy for their group or does each person need to show up in person for their individual badge?

                  badges..

you have cash.. you get badges...

You can buy as many as you want to buy, and then take them back to your group. So if you have members coming in late, or the next day, you can pick up the badges for them, and save them the trip through registration.

Are the badges this year designed yet? You could always put a magnetic strip on the back and see how creative people can get. Heck let's make the badges out of the same material they make those nostalgic X-ray glasses out of. :D

I thought that was a pretty good way to judge the effectiveness of the speaker ^_^ The more people playing with the badges, the less interesting the talk, and vice versa. Especially when visual presentations were being made.

Idea: How about this year our badges have small piezo buzzers.. and you have a little voice that says "Survey says... BZZZZZZ", and says each time the badge is squeezed.. by squeezing fast and frantic you can get SSSSSuuSuSuSurVeVey SaSssssays .... BZZBzZZbZzzBzZZZ... ... imagine thousands of these all playing at the same time... the madness!

I have a feeling this thread is going to tie in with the firearms thread really soon...

All the threads eventually turn to firearms, girlz, alcohol, and sometimes even computers. It's one of those mysteries of life.
