If at all possible I'd like to get a pro DJ for the event. I just figure it's our first year and there'd be less fuckups that way.
Locally I know a DJ who has 850GB of CD+G images and software he can actually search them with. No more song codes, and plenty more music in the database than he could ever printed out in a book (I'd like to get that searchable somewhere online)
I'm looking for someone with that level of technical sophistication. This is Defcon, after all, not a sports bar.
I told my local guy about doing karaoke at Defcon, which was cool because he had heard of it and was willing to DJ himself. I told him the dates though, and apparently he has a conflict. He said he could recommend some DJs out there so I hope I can find one with a similar size library at the very least.
But hey, do you know a DJ? Like a good one? Someone who isn't going to show up with a fucking LaserDisc player? (I literally know some guy who still uses LaserDiscs). Someone who brings their music on a hard drive instead of a binder full of CDs?
Or hey, are you a karaoke DJ yourself (or know one)? Like a real one who does it at least once a week or so? That'd be great.
Depending on your (or your friend's) karaoke credentials there will be pay involved. I'm certainly not looking to provide transportation to the event so hopefully you're a Vegas local or will be present at the con and available both before the event for equipment check/setup and around the hours of 7PM - ??? on Friday night. (probably 12-1AM? This is as yet undetermined AFAIK)
If so, send me a private message or email me on Gmail, where my username is "bascule".
