  • The DEFCON Filler Content Archive - update, torrent, etc

    Hey hey,

As the months ticked by since last summer, we have been quietly maintaining and revising the DEFCON Filler archive. Every time someone pastes a key YouTube link in the channel, every time someone mentions a great video on the forums, or every time i'm drunk and watching some downloaded episode with a segment that is too good to pass up, things get added.

Lately my body has been stuck on UTC -10:00 from ShakaCon so i've been up really, really late and decided to spend a night or two re-encoding all the material that was in oddball formats (high quality YouTube downloads are in MP4, great for compression but shit for open playback) and sort it into folders.

The archive is now 12 GB in size, and frankly has some stuff in it that could do with deletion. But i don't feel it's right for me to make that call... i'm just a repository and an editing bay. I'm torrenting this new archive (or, i will be soon when the indexing and hashing operation completes) so i invite people to grab the archive (if you have the torrent from before please try to download over it so you client can skip 75% of the data transfer and you'll automatically be seeding the bulk of the files from the outset)

Browse around, let me know what files are really good and especially let me know what files are duds, stupid, too low quality, have bad sound (garbled, deynced, too soft, too loud, etc) and so forth. The archive is of such a size now that things like Dwutang.avi and Jelly Doughnut Freestyle.avi can likely be done away with. But that's just my opinion.

"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

The new torrent can be found here

again, please try to line up the download with any previous archive of the files that you may have. it will speed things along and help a great deal with seeding. i'm going out to dinner, hopefully my system won't have a meltdown before i return.

i look forward to your comments and suggestions for editing and improving the archive.

give me YouTube links or specific Season/Episode number codes along with rough time estimates and i'll snag them.

the torrent currently appears to have three peers, but only one person is connectable to me for some reason. whomever you are in the greater Tampa region, thanks for grabbing the content... whomever else is out there, do you have crypto disabled in your client? i run (and so should you) forced encryption on all P2P traffic. grab µTorrent and rock that shit out.

Re: The DEFCON Filler Content Archive - update, torrent, etc

as we're now very close to DEFCON and i'm packing up most items, wrapping up projects, etc... i've taken down the old Filler Archive torrent for the moment. i didn't get too many suggestions from people regarding what should be removed (maybe after we're all home from Black Hat and DEFCON and PlumberCon and HAR and any other crazy events people have on the horizon for August we can discuss that further) but i did get a few good additional suggestions.

The ones mentioned in this thread have all been added, along with some others. It is fitting, perhaps, that i'm closing out the archive for this year by adding in what is possibly the most WTFAWESOMELULZ clip i've seen in ages. Daisy shot me a link earlier and then ran into the room just to watch it a second time as i played it. If you haven't seen Nirvana vs Rick Astley, check it out now and then look forward to it on the wall at DEFCON.

On that last note, does anyone have reliable contact info for the crew running the CTF this year? I've tried reaching them on the forums and even in their IRC channel, but had no luck. There seemed to have been a lot of support for keeping the filler videos as part of the CTF room's atmosphere, and i'm happy to get them into the right person's hands... as soon as i learn exactly whom the right person is and that they're still up for this.
