This years competition was some of the most fun I've ever had hacking on electronics.
Next year's contest will be even better. I have no idea what the badge will be like, but I do know we're starting the design ASAP :)

[Defcon 17] Fun, great time BadgeHacking DC17
[ Yeah, I'm lazy.. I also posted this to hack-a-day. - Dr. Volts ]
As a member of the runner-up dirigible team "HackTheBadge", I have to say that it was the most fun, exhausting, frustrating, glorious 48 hours of hacking I've had at DefCon in the last 12 years.
We brought together a team of two long-time DefCon hackers, plus a really TOP notch group of four other first-year DefCon attendees into a powerhouse of a team. From the initial brainstorming session, to final completion, I wouldn't trade the experience for anything else. The dirigible was even perfectly weighted the first time it was assembled!
As the runner-up team, it's still a win, and it was a real sight to see all three boards pushing that dirigible along .. making it run away from the audience while all three badges worked together. In every respect, it was a great hack, and I'm proud of my team.
I respect Joe, DT's and Zac's decision. Zoz's hack had a compelling and entertaining story, and while it may not have been the most technically challenging badge hack to date .. it _was_ fun!
The source code for our hack has been mailed to Joe (Kingpin) so that it can be included in the gallery of hacks. As the HackTheBadge team winds down from the con, you can bet we'll be posting about the fun/exhausting/challenging experience of hacking the DC17 badge, and there will be plenty of video and pictures to see.
CONGRATULATIONS to _everyone_ who took the time to hack a badge, as well as everyone who encouraged us with questions, amusement, and just plain ooo's and aah's.
It is, after all, just a game at a convention we all love to go to. Just means that next year I'll get a chance to be even more mischievous, and devious.
Peace,
Dr. Volts.
