First, you will probably want to talk to Kallahar on the forums here in public or via PM to get some ideas and information about running this contest, and thoughts on things that worked and things that didn't. Also, usually with Defcon contests and events, if a contest is to be run by someone else, there is usually some kind of handing-off (official or otherwise) from the people that ran it to the people that are running it. Leaders/Organizers invest so much of their time, they get attached to the contest or event they ran, and it is a nice acknowledgment of their work to talk to them about using the same name they used before using it.

After discussing the contest with Kallahar and getting a hand-off or not, your next step would be to contact Pyr0 who is running the contest area this year instead of Russ who in a fit of role reversal, is Pyr0's number 2 guy instead of the other way around. Pyr0 controls room space allocation (where you can run your contest in the contest area) as well as tables, proximity to power, and more. You should consider bribes in the form of beer or any other 'vices' to Pyr0 and Russ to increase your chances of getting what you want. (Am I kidding? Maybe. Talk to them and find out. :-)

Before talking to Pyr0, please review the thread on what leaders/organizers of contests/events in the contest area should do as it will help you with many of the FAQ and details with running a contests or event in the contest area of Defcon.

    Good luck!

If someone steps forward to run this contest in the future, then maybe kits will be allowed. It would be up to them.

Before asking why, the better question would be who?

Once you know who is running the contest, the rest of the questions about the contest can likely get answered.

Are you looking to run this contest? If you become the organizer of this contest, then you can set the rules.

Wait. What? Probably? 2 years ago, it was "only 2 more contests" and last year it was, "next year will be the last one, but now I see this year will "probably" be the last year?

Now people that will be playing this year will be wondering if this is a clue. "Is probability involved? Maybe it is a contradiction which will answer a riddle in the contest?" Then again, maybe you are saying you might look to run this contest next year if you don't run the Lost @ Con Mystery Challenge next year. Or maybe the mystery challenge will return, but be called something else, and people will just have to know it is a mystery contest wrapped in another contest.

You are tormenting them. Oh, the humanity.

    Good job! :-)

Sure! All you have to do is run it... :) Seriously, I'm willing to help out, but we need someone to be in charge. The plus side of being in charge is that you get to decide all the rules!
