  • If you fit in, no one will notice you....

    Until it is too late:

Well dressed guy spends the whole day hanging out in an office building, taking his time in looting and pillaging. The guy even slept there for a while.

Short hair, a tie, a button down shirt, a smile, and a tan trench coat are the keys to the kingdom. While these might not get you into the NSA, or Area 51, the other 98% of places usually aren't a problem. Token white hard hat will also do it.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should. This applies to making babies, hacking, and youtube videos.

Clipboard, too. You can't forget the clipboard. An officious, bureaucratic attitude is always an asset, too.

You need the white w/ blue striped short-sleeve workshirt and navy blue dickies to go along with the token white hardhat, you know, just to make it official. Add a toolbelt and a lineman's handset, and the comm room is yours. "Maintenance personnel" are the kind of people that get cooperation, but don't get remembered.

It boggles the mind how complacent people are about the appearance of "I'm supposed to be here". This guy walks around from noon to 5am and goes completely unnoticed. Not a doubt in anyone's mind of should this guy be here. You would think the building security staff (presuming there is one) would notice even just the number of times this guy walked up and down the same hallways.

Reminds me of when I started as an apprentice (Large Airline) and my leading hand wanted to teach me about being in a large company.

He gave me a clipboard with a few bits of paper on it, and sent me off to another section on the base. 8 hours and not a single question asking who I was or what I was doing. No one even checked my ID.

If anyone that works in a large corporation thinks they're not basically invisible they're mistaken.

This doesn't surprise me at all. It would be interesting to know just how often this sort of thing goes on, a lot of places don't have video surveillance, or recorded video surveillance.
