Can't wait for the Hardware Hacking Village to open in the morning. I'm hoping to see one of these babys in action!

The write-up said they tested the software on the iphone, and it sounded like the software is run using the controls on the badge. There is also mention of a dev environment for the badge, which would likely require a laptop, since I would expect most phones don't run with USB Host support, just as a USB client and setting up a dev environment to work on the different phones would probably be a nightmare.

Yeah, that is one of the images I tried. It was the best resolution I found, but was not good enough. Even tried playing with contrast, colors and rotation of the image, but I still was not able to scan it.

I'm guessing it is probably just a link to their website, or facebook or a sponsor or credits. Since I don't see any obvious ciphertext, I was hoping it might be a link to a puzzle, but if it is not, then assuming there is a puzzle, it is probably in software on the badge.

    This thing is amazing.

I'd love to get my hands on one of these. Maybe luck will be a lady to me. It is, after all, Vegas!

Guess I'll just have to schmooze with everyone I possibly can! :)

Yes, but images are not high enough resolution to make the "2d barcode" on the top left front readable.

That looks AMAZING. I don't even want to know how long it took them to put together.

In 24 hours (9am Pacific 7/28), the badge teaser site will disappear and the 'release' site will automatically go live. A larger site will be deployed after DEFCON is over.

The release site will appear at http://ninjas.org/badges/defcon18.html

We'll have more info on that next week. In the meantime...

Brandon/cstone is the guy building the SDK and also writing the default badge software. I can't speak for him on specifics, but I think he's aiming to have *something* for people to use at DEFCON, and then most likely a more complete package afterward. I know we'll be distributing source for the default software as well.

The badge is very hackable with or without the SDK. I believe (and these are my words not Brandon's) that the SDK he's got in mind is going to be relatively lightweight and really easy to get into, but powerful enough to exploit all of the badge components.

Again, I defer to Brandon on the SDK details - he's working his ass off on the software as we speak. He'll be at con and I'm sure he'd be happy to chat about it.
