I'm considering buying both - though ultimately I'm after a shirt and badge. I live in South Africa and haven't had the spare funds to make it to DefCon yet - I'm planning for next year, or holding out for DefCon 20.

I've got various 'con memorabilia from over the years, even some Hope 2k stickers and stuff, without even leaving this country ;) Sure it doesn't count for much, just gives a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Well the account used to be very active but since '04 has only been used to sell one thing, so my guess is the person knows how lame they are being and is using an old account to cover up his heinous crimes. Do know the account belongs to a dude though, as someone in the feedback called him a 'cool guy'. So you know, that eliminates like 5% of DEFCON attendees :)

Googles for 'jjyw' mostly come up with bad OCRs (usually Arabic), though there is a TripAdvisor user from Mountain View who posted a few hotel reviews back in '07. Beyond that cursory search, I don't know. I'd guess we're looking for someone from Canton, MA who now works in Silicon Valley.

Ugh! That is horrible! It makes you wonder if they didn't take it out of the box on purpose because they had already planned to sell it on Ebay from the moment they got it. I really have no idea how the were able to resist. The badge this year so fantastic.

Two grand? Really? Glad to see nobody bought it just to get into Ninja Party though...

I will also be bringing mine to DCXIX for more battling, so I will see you all there! I think enough of us will be around to get at least a few battles in. I'm also working on a sort of Ninja Badge Single Player Campaign, because I don't have any local friends with badges to play with in the meantime.

Safe to say, I have far too many plans for mine (and far too much respect for the Ninjas) to ever sell mine.

I should add that I seriously considered buying the badge from eBay (to find out who the seller was, since obviously it's someone who shouldn't get another one next year). Only trouble is, I'm lazy, and it would take two or three hours to spin all that eBay/PayPal crap up...

I think he just means DefCon stuff, as in things from DefCon that random people have thrown up for sale. No reference to #DC-Stuff in particular. He types too fast and capitalizes badly with poor punctuation thrown in for good measure.

    From the instructions:
    * Do not clean with benzene, noob blood, vodka, or other such solvents.
    * Do not taunt the Ninja Badge.
    * Do not sell your Ninja Badge on eBay, because that would be super lame.
    * Do not sell your Ninja Party Plus-One, because that's even more lame.

I am with you on this sentiment. If I were given a badge it would be regarded as unique and treated as such.

I believe someone stated that there were instructions that came with the badges, that it was NOT to be put up on eBay. I could be mistaken on this though.

I'd like to repair a broken one if there are any available so it can be displayed next year in the HHV.

Depends and could be a good way to find out but then again, the ebay account could be listed under a business name as well. If I had the scratch for it, I would buy it just so it didn't make it's way out of the community that appreciates being given one of the Ninja Badges.

    2 notes

    1. New In the Box - Totally agree..who gets a badge and then doesn't use it, very lame.

    2. Auctioning the one above (legit) for EFF. This is a special badge provided specifically for auctioning to raise money for eff.. vs the one I originally spoke of which is just..lame.

I second that. I already have plans to stockpile batteries for next year, so that I can pass them out to anyone that needs them, to keep the game going.

BRING IT ON!...and on... and on... This badge rawked my con.

On that note, is there a need to build a new badge next year? Just program an upgrade for the software/firmware and create a station to upgrade the badge next year (a fix that won't "kill" the character you've already leveled, gotten inventory for etc.)? If you're not attending Con, you can "loan" your badge to someone that is. Otherwise, you already have your Ninja Party Pass for DCXV. Maybe produce a few dozen more to replace a few broken ones, give out to those that missed-out but should have gotten one, invite a few more folks. I mean really, BarKode, W0z, cstone, cnelson, skrike and the rest of the Ninja Krew really out did themselves this year. They deserve to relax for a few years and have time to create something TRULY epic to try and top this one. (Not that I don't think you kids aren't already scheming. ;)

I'll be bringing my badge back again.. at least through DCXX. Even if only for the epic battles. Although it will be rather pointless if Vandal and I are two of only a handful of folks that feel this way.

But I digress. My apologies. This thread was to dress-down the id10t auctioning their Ninja badge. Let that stand as it may. Lame move +++. I'm sure someone will buy that badge, get their docs and out them for the scene to know as the poor example of a human that they are.
