  • Tactical Laptop Bags

So my life has me traveling alot for various types of gigs. Each one seems to bring it's own requirements for gear which has be constantly packing and repacking gear. Currently I'm using a Targus sorta-hard-sided case that is pretty sturdy but has pretty crappy storage for all the adapters and other crap I need with me, hence the selective packing

I've taken a keen eye to the military's use of molle pouches on their load bearing gear to selectively be able to add gear to the bag in pouches and go.

However, there is a pretty poor selection of laptop bags with molle webbing. I can get all sorts of small stuff or bags big enough to carry a body, but nothing briefcase sized with molle webbing. There are some on ebay and amazon, but they seem to be pretty cheaply built.

Just wondering what people use in such circumstances or if they have their own solutions for gear packing for travel.

I use the Maxpedition Operator Tactical Attache in Black:

I get a lot of 'Nice bag. Can I look inside?' from the state troopers in government buildings I have to go into for work. Other than that, it is the best bag I have ever owned.

I have a holster for it, too, which I recommend.

One problem I have had in the past is that if you have a big bag, you naturally end up filling it. The current hard side has the advantage of being minimal size , but the layout was meant for a laptop and paper, not tech accessories. I'm aiming for similar size but rather than the accessories inside the case, being able to secure them outside as necessary

Got an "interesting" catalog the other day. Full of stuff like this: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/MOLLE124-1.html Might just fit your needs. Personally I like a messenger bag with smaller bags and cases inside. That way the size adapts depending on the mission...

I personally use this for when I travel onsite: http://www.amazon.com/Swiss-Gear-17-.../dp/B000WQCYDI

It's still a backpack, so I'm not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for. But I absolutely love it, tons of room, lots of pockets, pockets within pockets, etc...

              Re: Tactical Laptop Bags

Plenty of MOLLE equipped briefcases, bags, totes and other option on your local military base's clothing sales section. How about a run to the local Air Base over Defcon?

AAFES has really gone down in their selection of tactical gear recently, especially at Air Force bases.

As far as quality tactical bags, the top manufacturers are eagle industries, tactical tailor, hsgi, and tag gear.

County comm has a good selection of bags too, this seems like what you might be looking for:

                  Re: Tactical Laptop Bags

Actually, the Mid-Range bag (http://countycomm.com/midrange.htm) fits the bill nicely, though a bit of a tight fit for my thinkpad with extended battery, but it'll be replaced sooner or later, so I can figure out something till then.

Now the next trick is to figure out how to get the damn thing to Canada. No international shipping sucks.

Any other options people know of?

have it shipped to me, and i'll ship it to you. after all, that worked well with the heroin and the bazookas for that party you were throwing last August.

I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

I figured that an offer would come through (I was typing an email to you before i checked the forum :) )

As for the party, don't forget the goats in the box. Great times, Great times.

I'd have offered the same thing, but everything I ship to you has a nasty habit being mistaken for explosives...

Check out the LA Police Gear Bag, (http://www.lapolicegear.com/tabaoutbag.html) it's also available from countycomm. They are cheap, small, meaning you need to pack lite.

                            Re: Tactical Laptop Bags

When I travel (and I do quite often), I use just a leather messenger bag with a casesafe case for my laptop. So far it's survived everything quite well, and the casesafe pouch absorbs force and protects from scratches.

Just using a normal messenger bag has a slight advantage in not being as much of a target as a specialized laptop bag as well.
