Re: Alcoholic Ice Cream Contest [was titled: Toxic Ice Cream]

Londo edited his post to replace the "Toxic Ice Cream" name for this contest with "Alcoholic Ice Cream Contest" so the forum name and forum description have the name "Toxic Ice Cream" removed.

A twitter feed is available for this contest:
    https://twitter.com/AICC_Defcon

The planning for this is taking place on facebook. The forum for this event is actually a link to their facebook page:
    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Alcoho...09387349352#!/

Closing this thread to encourage people to go there to plan this.

Um...I would like to volunteer my services for the onerous duty as judge of this contest. If this is not sufficient, I would like to beg to be said judge. If you read my posts, it should be obvious to all that I know at least something about alcohol, and even moreso, ice cream.

    Thanks,
    Snide

For those that are interested, some resources that might help kick off your planning (yes, this event has me excited and googling):

    ) http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-...m-in-5-minutes
    ) http://recipes.howstuffworks.com/ice-cream.htm
    ) http://www.instructables.com/id/Home...Old-Fashioned/

    most importantly, some topics like:

Of particular value to the judges is the safety with your concoction:

Freezing doesn't kill salmonella bacteria; it merely makes them dormant.

It is possible to avoid raw eggs and still get approximately the same flavor/texture result! Anything pasteurized should allow you to make something equally awesome without killing any of the judges; probably not quite the same with powdered eggs, but, you get the idea.

    most importantly:
    BOOZESCREAM!!

Someone proposed the idea to Pyr0 before ID4con, and I think they got an okay to run this. If you are affiliated with them, then this may be the same event. If not, this may be a duplication of events. (Check with Pyr0 for more information; I am still waiting for the person that proposed this idea to submit information and links/URL.)

This is information and caution as I really do not care if there are 2 events or just one and if both go, or just one does. If both are given a nod, I can make forums for both. I don't approve contests or events, but once they get approval, I will make a forum for them.

Heck, for all I know, you are an organizer for the event that Pyr0 was told about based on the same concept.

    Good luck!

[Edit: update after reading an email on this]
According to a recent email, the person that was given an ok to run this claims they are working with L0nd0 to make this event happen. Planning for this will take place off the forums at:

    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Alcoho...09387349352#!/

    and:

    https://twitter.com/AICC_Defcon

I'll be making a "forum" which is really a link to the facebook page so that organization can take place there.

  • Alcoholic Ice Cream Contest [was titled: Toxic Ice Cream]

Even though the BBQ is off the list this year there is one event that was going to happen at the BBQ that I think still needs to happen. Check this out and let me know what you think.

Objective: We all love Ice Cream and we all certainly love Alcohol in all its forms especially at Defcon. So I present to you a challenge to create a blend of Ethanol (Alcohol) and Ice Cream that’s unique and tasty. You'll have a little over two days after signing your self or team up to devise a plan to make your very own booze infused ice cream concoction.
*For those under 21 (or those who just don't drink) we will have a category called "Virgin Toxic Ice Cream" all the flavor minus the booze.

Things to Think About: Booze in Ice Cream is not a new thing as cultures have been mixing alcohol in and with everything we run across and ice cream is no exception. There are a few companies and boutique ice cream parlors that make alcoholic ice cream. From what I have noticed many only contain the flavor of booze but lack any noticeable amount of ethanol. This is due to many reasons. The first being its easier to market this way because the audience is larger since there wouldn’t be a restriction on selling it. The second is a challenge you will have to face as the freezing point of ethanol is quite low (−114 °C, 159 K, -173 °F).

"Suggestions: You can get ice cream from the hotel restaurant or buffet as well as the two fast food places and gas stations near the hotel. you should also be able to get any booze from the hotel or gas station near by. There are usually mini fridges in most hotels rooms to help setup the ice cream, dry ice and a bucket of ice from the hotel ice machine can also work."

    Rules:
    · You must be 21 to participate in the alcoholic category
    · Entries will only be accepted on Friday, August 5 · 2:00pm - 4:00pm
    · Must be edible (don't bring us something that will make us sick)
    · No store bought pre-mixed alcoholic ice cream flavors

    Point System:

    · Consistency
    · Originality
    · Flavor
    · Bonus Points
    o Presentation (flair)
    o Unique Original Flavor
    o Chemical breakdown
    o Name of flavor
