I've been into hardware hacking for about a year, and now I want to get into stuff that's more complicated than messing with kids toys. I've got some weird stuff going on with my late 2009 MacBook pro and I need to take the battery out. Problem is there's a sticker that says "warning do not remove battery". I'm trying to figure out what kind of solvent I should use...google isn't helping.

How can I figure out which solvent to use?

Also, I don't want to be that annoying kid that asks questions every time I have a piece of tamper proof doodad that I want to remove so any PDFs or books you can recommend would be appreciated :).

I don't understand why you'd need to use a solvent to remove the battery. You'll just damage the components. I've been fixing laptops for quite some time. That sign is just a warning and it sounds like you have the unibody MacBook. Give me your model number and I'll telyoke what you need to do. It's a number starting with the letter A1xxx. I believe yours is the A1285 model. Look underneath your computer.

Good call, I forgot to mention the unibody part.
      It is an A1297.
I didn't know if it was a warranty void if removed kind of sticker, and i remember at the tamper evident comp one of the dudes was talking about solvents to remove the sticker without disturbing it.
Is there anywhere you know of where I can find out more about getting passed tamper evident stuff? I kind of like the challenge. I feel like a surgeon.
I tried google...but a friend said that the new knowledge is the ability to form a query...and without knowing the terminology, it's hard to ask the right question
      Thanks for the help btw

So basically you're taking apart your computer for no reason. iFixit has some pretty good guides. The sticker is going to be a bit hard to remove properly. I'd try using tweezers and a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. I don't know how you're going to stick the thing back on though.

There are screws underneath each black foot, but I'm sure you already know that.

Yeah, I was checking out ifixit to make sure I wasn't missing anything.
I managed to get the sticker off without it showing any signs of removal using a razerblade. I dont know what kind of adhesive it is either...I don't know where else to look to find out. Like I said, without knowing the right words to use, it's hard to get valuable results, which is why I'm looking for books or articles about techniques people use, and common problems they run into.
There weren't screws under the black feet though...
I was taking it apart because the optical drive was ejecting disks and making weird beeping and grinding sounds when I'd try to put a cd in. So i took it out to see if there was anything stuck in it. After I did that I figured that I mind as well clean everything, and I needed to look at the battery to make sure it wasn't corroding or anything.
Just trying to rule out reasons for the error.

I'd recommend replacing the disk drive. It's amazing to see how Apple's marketing makes us think that they make the internal components themselves. When in fact the drives are made by third party manufacturers. Check the sticker that's on it and look for the make and model number. Hell, you sound like you're advanced enough though. I don't even know why I'm telling you this.

Don't be afraid to ask if you're stuck on something. If you can post a video of it, that be great!

"I don't even know why I'm telling you this"
Your name is troll...so I can't tell whether or not you're being sarcastic...but either way I dig your style, g-unit.
i gots to order me some-o-dem apple screws. Because I lost 2 that go on the bottom, and 2 of the tamper evident screws on the inside show that I've been pokin around in there.
I swear to God/theInfiniteVoid, if I take this noise into the Apple store...and motherfuckers tell me my warranty is void.
I'm gonna make an apple pie.
              of corpses.
              (jk)
But for real...I took everything apart to clean it and to not waste their time. And there is no "warranty void if seal is broken" sticker.
              Murder, I tell you.

I'm going to tell you that most of these Apple "Geniuses" are pretty retarded. However, there are those Apple user policies in which you've agreed to that takes away some of your rights. I remember one time those "Geniuses" said that my "LogicBoard" fried. So they took my computer and wiped the hard drive and replaced the motherboard. Why?!If I'd done it myself my precious data would still be there. Then, there was this other time where I took my jailbroken iPhone (This was a little over a year ago when jailbreaking was still "illegal") and showed them the software bug in my phone that wouldn't allow my phone to charge past red. They replaced my phone whilst having Cydia installed right in front of their eyes. My MacBook Pro still works, but now some keys stopped working. I have a lot more stories about the bad experiences I've had with Apple support. I'd like to keep my posts short, but I do like typing :P

You won't be wasting Apple's time. That's their job and people get paid to do that. Be concerned with wasting yours by possibly having sub-par results that will cause you to come back.

I don't troll here and I'm just naturally talented at trolling. If I ever get back into the sport or if anyone would like for me to troll for them, you know who to ask :)
