Re: Scavenger Hunt Call for Art

Our tshirt art contest is over! We received only one submission so it wasn't that much of a competition in the end. Congratulations to @Ni7ita and thank you for the fantastic design! If we don't see you at the contest table we will post a shirt to you afterwards. This piece is amazing folks, so come check it out! Only the top three winning teams will receive them and they are never for sale. Hunt Well!

It is now mid-May. We need art for our custom tshirts by End Of June.
If you have ever thought of having your art on our shirts, seen by everyone who comes to our table during Con, worn by 15 team winners, and on your own back, please get a submission to us! Put your URL or handle, or whatever, in the art itself, that's ok! Just get it to us!

Submit to scavlist@gmail dot com now!

We do indeed have some lovely, bright red, well made and handsome shirts already. But those are OURS. We don't want winners dirty little hands on them!

If you are referring to Salem's additional art request, yes, that art is for a different project at the Hunt table, not for our "official" tshirts, and any art is accepted. Want to cross pollinate for the Shoot? Feel free, we like cooperatives.

    Just saying.

Along with the Call for Art, we're also looking for artwork in .svg format. If you've got any nifty artwork related to the con, hacking stuff, logos, designs, icons, lockpicking, beer, or pretty much anything else that strikes our fancy there's a high probability that it will get printed on ping pong balls and hurled into the crowd at random intervals!

Last year someone stepped up and gave us a flash drive with a fuzzy little bear taking a walk, and we printed a couple hundred of them!

If you send us artwork that we decide we like, I'll make sure to print up a few copies just for you (aside from any that we print up specifically as projectiles, but no promises that the ones you we print for you wont also be thrown at you.)

Send any submissions to the above address.

In reply to an email received at the above address:

" Thank you for your interest in our tshirt design! We can't offer a payment for the end result much more than an honorarium at best but keep in mind your art will be on a shirt that our judging staff will wear throughout the convention. It will be seen by approximately 10,000 people walking by and our top three winning teams (of five each) will receive one to keep. So we do insist that you put your name or url on it somewhere for your own benefit!

In regards to your question, last year our art was inspired by "Duck Hunt". Our artist tweaked it to fit the "geek" culture and the Scavenger Hunt contest's sense of fun and practical joking. Attached is the "classic" game image. In last year's shirt some elements of "geek culture" were added in, such as a phone booth, alcohol(the dog held beer instead of ducks and "shots" were indicated by shot glasses) and "31337" was the high score, and other tweaks to customize it to us. This made the design distinctive yet recognizable. We do not require any of those elements, they are purely explanatory.

This shirt complimented an accessory one of our team built, a light gun, originally used to play "Duck Hunt" but modified for modern day, non video game, use. We will have these guns again next year which is driving our request for a similarly inspired, but completely different, game art shirt. All we ask is that your inspiration come from a game that would have been played with a light gun. It can be as simple or as complicated as you wish, specifically derivative or barely inspired by, but it should only require a 3 color print onto a tshirt.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_light_gun_games

Only three items are required in any design you submit. "Scavenger Hunt" and "Defcon 20" or "Defcon XX" in readable text, and the apple design, in some fashion, that I have also attached to this email. We require the art be submitted in vector format, ready for printing.

I hope this has cleared up some of your questions or generated more specific ones. Perhaps some inspiration may have already struck! Looking forward to hearing from you again!
