    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    1 APRIL 2012

    DEFCON CTF QUALIFIER ANNOUNCED

Defense Diutinus Technologies Corp (ddtek) is pleased to announce the
round of qualification for DEFON 20 CTF... DEFCON XX,
    it's two-thirds sheepornographic!

In case you have been under a rock, DEFCON 20 is poised to be the
largest it has ever been, thousands and thousands of hackers,
high end entertainment and non-stop action to rival m3rc's in romps
    New Zealand's sheep country.

So get your 50 gal. discount lube handy (use coupon code
DDTEKNEEDZLUBEZ) and get ready to be pwned...the no-holds-barred
competition for these coveted spots will be held over 48 non-stop
hours 1-3 June (US time zones).

The qualification round will require teams to demonstrate the
superiority of cyber, security, and hacking across a vast realm of
security knowledge, practice and CISSP DRE exam prep questions.

DT asked DDT to grow the CTF. So we have. We are pre-qualifying
winners of other CTFs around the globe to bring a smackdown of epic
    proportions this August.

As always, last year's champion, the Euopean Nopsled Team, is granted
automatic entry. There are so many CTFs on the
circuit these days, we seek to incorporate only the best of the best.

So, random, wandering sheep have selected the following CTFs using a
scientifically proven "pin the tail on the m3rc" (role reversal--who
    knew?) method.

Last year the iCTF and Codegate winners demonstrated that winners of
these CTFs were worthy of returning, additionally we invite victors
from NCCDC, HitB, PhDays, nuit du hack, RuCTFE, and Defcon 19 oCTF.

The winners of said competitions have reserved seats at this years show.

While DEFCON refuses to sell-out to corporate sponsorship, DT is
personally covering two rooms per team at the majestic RIO hotel
    Thursday-Sunday for each team.

In honor of DC XX we're upping the number of tables in Vegas to 20
total. Yes, when the dust clears the _20_ best will be invited to
join us this summer in sin city for the annual DEFCON deathmatch. It
wouldn't be fair to reduce the number of spots available to the
public at large, so 10 teams will qualify in open quals this June.

Reg is at ddtek.biz. Only those that pre-register for quals are
permitted entry. Each individual should register. The first member
of each team to register will receive a team code to privately share
with other mates as they register. Just go to the dam site and
register. It's not hard (registration that is), and lusers that
can't bother themselves to register in the next eight weeks will be
required to wear sheep hatz to Defcon (http://bit.ly/HCIQQy).
Consider this your first challenge, those that successfully register
will receive 5 schrute bucks (Schrute buck to bitcoin to sheepantler
to qualpoint conversion scale will be available at a later date).

    Registration site: https://www.ddtek.biz/reg/dc20_reg.jsp
    Registration opens: 01 Apr 2012 00:00:00 UTC
    Registration ends: 01 Jun 2012 00:00:00 UTC

    Qualifications open: 02 Jun 2012 00:00:00 UTC
    Qualifications ends: 04 Jun 2012 00:00:00 UTC

For those mathy types, you'll notice that one seat is not accounted
for, stay tuned for a surprise announcement during quals weekend.

More infoz will follow via your registered email address.

Re: Amongst data breaches & misc 'leakage', not necessarily digital, DEFCON CTF conti

There has apparently been some confusion, misunderstanding or perhaps some simple complaining by some about the particular weekend selected for quals.

We have no intention of changing the announced weekend.

      Q) Why would DDTEK pick a weekend that might conflict with the travel schedules of a few teams?

A)Why not? Looking back, DEFCON CTF qualifier weekend has been held on this weekend (+/- 1 week for 7 of the past 8 years). Why would we move it? We announced Apr 1, also keeping tradition. Other events could choose keep this in mind for future scheduling. Besides, WWVD?

Q)But it's so close to another in-person CTF, one that is even a prequalifier for DEFCON CTF!

A)So what? First, teams could easily participate in both. If you are worried about travel - you can participate in our quals from anywhere. Or, teams could decide to only participate in one or the other. Regardless, percentage-wise this situation only has the potential to maximally impact a very small percentage of the DEFCON CTF participants. It makes no sense to appease a small population potentially inconveniencing others. More than 500 people have already indicated they will participate on the set dates (register here: https://www.ddtek.biz/reg/dc20_reg.jsp).

Q)Just pick another weekend with no other CTFs occurring anytime near it!

A)Is that even possible? These days there are so many CTFs popping up, that soon it won't be possible to pick an open weekend, much less adjacent weekends, etc. We think PhDays? is worthy of a prequalifier slot, and participating teams can distribute their efforts in a manner they feel increases their odds of qualifying.

Q)Free con admission and free hotel rooms is not enough. Other CTFs pay for airfare and offer big cash prizes!

A)First, this is the first time that anyone has even gotten admission or hotel rooms. The decision to keep the event "unsponsored" probably limits the amount of subsidy that can be offered to teams. There will be sheep though. Lots of them. Cuddly, fluffy, inflatable, lovely, supple.sheepz0rsformeh0h0h0mine!! The bottom line is that this a DEFCON decision. So props for the badges and rooms should go to DC and DT, as should any other feedback. If you can't afford to go to DEFCON CTF, we encourage you to play in quals, slow down your sheep habit, or make your sheep do a bake sale for you.

Q)defcon.org's dc20ctf page has slightly different information than yours, WTF?

A)Different website have different webmins. Everyone is busy. We give information to DEFCON staff and they try to keep defcon.org as up-to-date and accurate as possible, but ddtek.biz will have the most accurate information about the DEFCON 20 CTF. You can also check there for DEFCON 21 CTF since Mars has announced he's starting his solo career and that he'll be running CTF for the rest of his natural life (really, this is not an attempt to start a rumor, embellish, tell fish stories, or spread falsehood--this is fact based reporting--his sheep, James Rupert M. said so--Oh has anyone seen that HackerJoe wiretap tape?).
