  • Rendering Honors: Brad "The Nurse" Smith

As has hit twitter and facebook, among other things today, it appears
that Brad "The Nurse" Smith is now in terminal care. I regret not
having spent more time to get to know him, even though he and I lived
only a couple hundred miles apart for 6 years, and only saw each other
    once a year in Vegas.

I feel like I've been punched in the gut every time I'm confronted with this.

We're going to miss you, Nurse.

verrus: You are anot the only one. Took a day to hit me.

        <No personal rule here> FUCK!

        We lost a good one.

        We keep losing good ones.

We, as a community, have to hack this and make something good come from it if for no other reason than that's what The Nurse would want us to do with this.

I met him once, awesome guy, just...it sucks getting old man..I wish his family well, is there anything that is being done for them? There's a lot of things to deal with when something like this happens, if nothing is there already they should set up a proxy for flowers/food/gifts/well wishers to be able to make a comment. I apologize if that's on the link I replied before reading it. Meh, it's probably all done already, thoughts, condolences and love to the family.

Terrible news about Brad. I only briefly got to know him at Defcon 18, his energy and spirit was amazing and infectious. I really wish I had known him better.

My condolences go out to his loved ones during this time. if there is anyway to pass on a message anything of the sort I would be interested in details.

RIP Nurse, you will be missed.

i was so sad to learn of his passing. Brad was a real shining light and gave so much to the community... most of all during the times when he wasn't intentionally trying to teach or give or do something particularly special. Those were the times when he seemed to shine the most of all.
"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."
