I've always been taught them this way, but I usually explain it as "Be sure of your target, what is in front of it, and what is behind it". The rules are from Jeff Cooper and taught at Gunsite, and I took them as I remember from him.

But, after more research, it looks like his original is slightly different than what Gunsite has refined them to.

RULE IV: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS AROUND IT

    (those last five words, heh)

... if it's too late, eh, don't worry about it.

Thanks - I was following Deviant's lead in doing it at zero profit, and I still like that idea. This is one of the ways I can volunteer my time (although I didn't realize two years ago how much time it would be) and money for the good of the community. I'll do the math after I place the order, and the shirts will be available at no profit. If you have correct change, you can have it at that price; if not, then I'll gladly keep the change and use it to offset the cost of unsold shirts and the obscene amount my hotel charges me to receive the shipment in the business center.

A common price at DEF CON and most conventions per shirt is $20. I don't think anyone would complain if you kept whatever the difference between cost and $20 for yourself for the cost of transport, and time you have to spend to get this together.

Additionally, having it be $20 makes making change MUCH easier, and transactions take less time.

ATM often dispense cash in $20 increments, with some exceptions.

I am not speaking for everyone, but I can say, I have no problem paying $20 for a tee.

(This has also been the price for Tee Shirts at the Toxic BBQ, and other unofficial events.)

If you only charge the cost, and you eat "extra tee shirts" people are taking advantage of you. From my Point of View, going from $18 to $20 is a fair delta. See if other people agree.

If you still feel bad about taking any amount of "profit" consider still charging $20 and offer to donate any profits beyond your costs to a charity like the EFF, or to help Vets, or the NRA, or some group that protects second amendment rights, etc. Deviant might have some suggestions, too. (I'm not trying to political here. I am trying to mention areas of interest among people that would choose to attend the DC Shoot. Sorry if this comes across as my endorsement of any of these or a suggestion these are what should be selected. I am not pushing my authority to select any of these... these are only examples meant to help encourage you to choose a charity on your own. :-)

    Hope this helps,

What'cha think? Hopefully not any/many mods, since I'm nearly at deadline for rush orders. Also looks like we have less people registered this year for the shoot, so I probably won't order as many this year, unless the requests show demand.

Would it make more sense to have a bow and arrow replace the spear in the picture? The bow and arrow would be more recognized as a ranged weapon then the spear. Additionally the bow and arrow was the predecessor of firearms (depicted by the musket in the picture).

Yes, but single shirts end up being about $50-$60. That's why ordering fell apart last year because we couldn't get enough in a single batch to make it worthwhile. I fronted the money and ordered a bunch of shirts bring the cost down to under $20 even with rush shipping, and almost all the shirts sold out. I'll do the same this year, if I can get it done on time. I'll also dig through my box, and I think I have two shirts from last year left.

BTW, if anyone has the source from the DC18 shirt, I didn't get that one, and would pay to re-order it.

I'm starting the mockup of the shirt now with "Amendment DC21 - the right to keep and bear drones" on the chest, and

"Range rules updated for Defcon 21:
RULE I: ALL DRONES ARE ALWAYS LOADED
RULE II: NEVER LET THE MISSILE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY
RULE III: KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE BUTTON UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
RULE IV: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET"

Below the pic on the back. I'll probably not do it in ALL CAPS.

In Ascent of Man the chimps/men got bigger as it went along. In this version the weapons get smaller. Hmmm.

Perhaps it would make sense to rotate the drone 90 degrees, so there's less dead space in the image?

Looking forward to ordering mine! Is there a way to re-order ones from last year? I didn't even know there was shirts last year and apparently missed out.

I'm keen on that one too. In fact the "ascent" images even show the spear in one of the middle evolutions, so it is fitting that our's starts with that ranged weapon.
