  • staff looks good now (was: "still under-staffed")

I have had three people commit to serving as RSOs. I have zero official commitments for anyone who will act as general staff.

In the past we've had 3 (sometimes just 2) RSOs per shift, and just about as many general staff. I know that FirmWarez and ShortGrrl will likely pitch in as always because they are awesome and that generally gets us through the big push of seeing everyone get a badge and get to their lanes. But beyond that, i'm a little saddened to not have anyone else offering to wear a yellow or orange vest.

You get free admission and free use of the staff lanes when you're not on-shift... is that not enough of an incentive? :-/

EDIT: staff levels are looking better now, thanks to folk emailing and texting me, etc. thanks to all who are willing to give up two hours of their time to wear the Orange or Yellow vests. i appreciate it!

"I'll admit I had an OiNK account and frequented it quite often… What made OiNK a great place was that it was like the world's greatest record store… iTunes kind of feels like Sam Goody to me. I don't feel cool when I go there. I'm tired of seeing John Mayer's face pop up. I feel like I'm being hustled when I visit there, and I don't think their product is that great. DRM, low bit rate, etc... OiNK it existed because it filled a void of what people want."

I'd be happy to volunteer as RSO or General Staff, wherever you need me. I will be traveling to Vegas on Wednesday evening, so I'd only be available on Thursday, but I'm down to wear a vest.

            Re: still VERY under-staffed

thanks for this latest push of support. anyone who is interested, please feel free to email the following to deviant@deviating.net...

            name or nickname
best mobile number for you around DEFCON time
email (if there's a better one than your sender email)
desired role: RSO or General Staff
            (if RSO briefly summarize qualifications)
            day(s) and shifts available

... those who serve on staff usually try to pull two shifts and they get a staff badge (thus free admission) and use of the staff shooting lanes when they're not working. they are also naturally welcome to use any other lanes where they're invited... also when they're not working, of course.

Deviant, I will of course help out, but I tend to end up RSO-ing my own guns.

Hey Deviant, thanks for the shout out.

Folks, the shoot is like a lot of great events -- if you wanna play, you gotta pay. And a little bit of time helping out isn't much to pay for the fun that happens in desert.

We are planning on being there Weds and Thurs, Land Rover, roof top tent, and toys. And stories! A great time will be had by all...IF you guys with the experience step up to make sure everyone is safe. Who needs another cert? YOU could have "Unofficial Defcon Shoot RSO" on your resume!

I'd rather not commit to full staff, but if you need help with anything just ask.

                      Hello Deviant,

Sorry for not getting back with you right away with your idea of the lane pennants. I had some family problems that took up a lot of my time, they still are but I'm getting a little more free time now. I'll gladly help out if I can, I'll be on site starting Tuesday so that I can start early Wednesday setting up the little shoot challenge. I also took a lot of pictures for you of what the site looks like as of a few weeks ago. I also figured out the best place to do it that is very very far away from where your tents will be set up. If it's not a problem I'll be posting a link to a public folder in my drop box of the pictures of the shoot site. Also the PVC post idea you had could work but the ground there is pretty rocky and hard I was only able to drive them into the ground a little bit (it's the same kind of soil as I have here in Gardnerville, NV...so I'll do some more tests). A gust of wind may blow them down and for sure a bullet it would as well. I'm going to build a little something else and shoot at it in my back yard to see if I can find a better way, either way I'll bring something with me to the shoot to work as lane markers for you I promise. I'll also be camping at the camp site there as well so if you need me for anything I'll be right there.

Sorry for not replying earlier - null-tone reached out.

I am of course available to rso and looking forward to it.

Rso shirts would be wonderful. I love my orange dc19 shirt.

                          staff levels shaping up

thank you to all who emailed and PM'd and such about being staff for the shoot. some new folk chimed in, some other old-timers dusted off their email clients... and in the end things are looking better now.

the Wednesday evening sessions are still a little thin on RSOs, but i think that it might work out.

Thursday has potentially 4 RSOs per session

as for General Staff, things are still a little thin there... but i suppose we don't really need too many folk in yellow vests. mostly, i'm just hoping that RiotGrrrl and FirmWarez make it out there alright both for camping fun and also for helping to get people checked-in upon arrival.

I may be of use Thursday for you. I broke my hand and will not be shooting for two hours. Maybe 15 minutes.

dang, man. were you firing that Serbu one-handed too much? ;-)

sorry to hear that you're a bit out of action right now.
