The computer world is moving so fast.......every company is trying to release products first.......much like wireless networking, the lack of security and the number of companys that find it useful, i heard someone say at defcon that "the days of anonymous acess are back"

I would like to meet a 1 to keep my 0 company.

Like technology, all things expire quickly.

Almost overnight after adopting this(wifi) technology there are already wireless honeynets, detection tools, methods of triangulation... Though currently very laxed and not widely implementes (yet), there are methods out there for APs that appear to be rogue access points to be actually expecting unauthorized usage, and begin a sequence of events to locate your physical body in a matter of seconds. Which may one day lead to arrests... currently wardriving is not a crime, and I rather keep it that way, but it may be blanketed with unauthorized access and theft of services with the evolution of exposure by the media. Talks of legality have been beaten to death on numerous boards... but it is obvious that if someone intends on using something that is not theirs, that is stealing. To identify/acknowledge radio waves in public airspace is merely being observant. These are two entirely different things that for some reason are being mixed together... those damned politics.

I work in cupertino, right in the middle of a bunch of Apple buildings. Apple runs access points all across this area for net access and has these AP's segregated from their internel net (mostly like the reason they just implemented an ipsec client in jaguar). people can access them freely and apple doesn't officially allow or deny access.

it's an example of big corp doing something cool for their employees and locals.

Sounds a little shaky to me. If one isn't specifically allowed access (anonymous or otherwise), it is still unauthorized access...

yes, it's a good call to be careful regardless, but it's been that way since Apple rolled out airports all over their campus. One of the managers in my dept use to work for them and he states it pretty clearly, "as long as you don't do anything stupid or become a bandwidth hog, we will be able to enjoy it for a long time".

So, I basically be a good kid when I connect. And I don't pass anything personal across there to distinguish who I am.

Just curious J3di, have you stumbled the surrounding area and mapped out the APs? It would be interesting to see the map or log files.. for educational and informational purposes of course :)

yes, the immediate area, but I will do a more thorough job and pass along the data, for educational use, ofcourse .... :p

I will post somewhere on here soon with it.
