I know this question has been rasied before, but I myself am unclear on one thing, will a magellan work with netstumbler? I was looking at a neato magellan sportrak which has all the features I am looking for, but I didn't want to buy until I knew more about compatability.

*Any GPS will work as long as it uses nmea output, so I answered my own question.

NetStumbler v0.3.30 supports the Garmin Protocol and NMEA if you have a Garmin you can use this protocol over the NMEA since Garmin updates every second while NMEA updates every two seconds.

I personaly like the Garmin eTrex Series... but for whatever GPS you use make sure it is compatible with your system in that:
    - there is a serial/usb cable for communications with your stumbling device be it laptop, pda...
    - there is available driver support for any type of serial->usb converter for your OS
-You have all the components required such as gender changers and adapters if you do not have a cable that does not require them.
