The previous two posts are violation of Secondary Rule #7:

    7. Old Threads:
This is covered above and is covered here too: check the date on a thread before replying. Don't bother replying to old (i.e. over a month old) threads unless you have something of value to add.

    TwinVega, good point.

I think that the Mitnick-case is far more twisted than this one...
Mitnick did many things that (at least some of) the people going to Defcon regards as ethically defendable.
"Illegally entering computer systems" - Fair, that's a crime. But entering just for the purpose of doing it shouldn't be punished anywhere close to entering a system with wicked intentions - like planning to extort people.

Bah, it's been years since my last post here. And my English has suffered under it.

    just nine years?

Grace, 22, and Wilson, 28, regularly entered Riverside County Superior Court’s computer system from December 2001 to May 2002, editing files at will.
Investigation into the pair revealed they had also been involved in an extortion scheme impacting perhaps 100 victims, Long said. In his role as consultant, Grace had done repairs to a computer server for a Web site devoted to gay issues. But the two also copied secret data from the Web site, including customer names. They then extorted the customers, threatening to reveal their identities to the public. Extortion amounts ranged between $700 and $2,000.

Pair who hacked court get 9 years

Former computer consultant tried to dismiss pending cases

    By Bob Sullivan
    MSNBC

Feb. 7 — Two hackers who broke into Riverside County, Calif., court computers and electronically dismissed a variety of pending cases pleaded guilty to the crime Friday. Both William Grace and Brandon Wilson were sentenced to nine years in jail after pleading guilty to 72 counts of illegally entering a computer system and editing data, along with seven counts of conspiracy to commit extortion.

I could cut and paste more but that might be against the DMCA...
