Noid, knowing you, if we walk through the machine and do NOT beep we'll be kicked out as wussies!

Uncle Ira actually picked up some full size metal detectors at the last UW auction. They look just like the kind you see in the airport. I had suggested bringing them to defcon for shits 'n giggles. Actually, I wanted to create the opressive totalitarian atmosphere that you people all love so much.

I went through a metal detector at the airport pre-9/11 while wearing a neckchain with something metal on it, and large, maybe a coin, I can't remember. I beeped. I was unable to remove it so I was told to clasp my hands over it tightly and walk through the detector again. No beep.
Dick Marcinko talks about a crotch holster where his SEALS wore their weapon next to their gun ( :D ) and that was undetectable.
Nowadays I don't know what levels of security they will use, or how sensitive the detectors are.

hmmm... a lot of weirdos :D ... probably would go for a "defcon hack the metal detector contest" where you would try and hack a standard metal detector with an appropriate security configuration and see how many levels you can walk through it without being detected (or if using a variety of detection schemes/technology/devices)... then after you have been detected, or all the levels have completed without detection you empty your pockets and reveal your stealth weapon technology... and perhaps even demonstrate their lethalness... sure would be interesting to see what people could think of, perhaps exploiting a certain model of popular detector, but overall not a good idea since surely the press would portray this as a "terrorist-like training camp activity" ... and that would just be bad... especially if people misunderstood this was to be academic and not applied in the real world. what a world.

yeah glass knifes are awesome. I read a book once where an assassin used ice knifes to kill his victims. kinda farfetched i know but if one could figure out a way to keep them from melting before they are used, and figure out how to make them less brittle the idea of an ice knife might be a good one, i mean no finger prints and no murder weapon cause the thing will melt after use.

I think Quicksilver or the first book in the Quicksilver series is supposed to be coming out sometime before long too.....

I dont think you california folks can own them, but if you're looking for a non-metalic knife check out the Blackie Collins assisted open 'letter opener'.
Also to correct my previous post, the hammer and sear are metal, but not in the upper assembly of the weapon, they're down on the lower..
