Is this event for US citizens only?

Hi guys,
I'm new here on the forums and this will be my (long awaited) first Def Con!
Since I'm a sport shooter for over 20years now... I would really like to attend this event.
Are foreign citizens allowed? I'm from Poland, EU.
I have a "Sports shooter license", and other paperwork issued by my government confirming that I can handle guns in a safe manner. But since Europe is Europe I do not hold a gun permit.
I can only shoot rented guns at competitions and shooting ranges. Would that be a show stopper?

Even if you've never shot a gun before you're welcome. But if you plan on shooting, we obviously expect you to be safe. If you're not sure what that means then we'll be happy to teach you first.

You sound like you have experience, but especially when renting a gun you're not familiar with, don't hesitate to ask questions. I'd rather answer 20 basic questions from someone (and repeat myself if they can't hear me), than have them wing it.

Sure thing, safety first.
I shot mostly sport rifles and pistols. Mostly .22, .32 and 9mm. Never had a chance to try ie. long range rifle, which I would love to try.

Is renting the car my only option to get to the site, or will there be some sort of transport available?

Check the ride sharing thread, that's your best bet. Include specifics on times you are interested in going since some people camp out there all night.

A few years ago there was a bus (http://www.hackbus.net/) but I didn't see it last year.

I've heard of people taking taxi's but it is really out in the middle of no where, and they may charge you round trip fees since they would have to drive back.

Non-US citizens are allowed at the DC shoot.

The DEF CON shoot is a bunch of people bringing their own firearms out into the desert to shoot at targets.

I do not know any "gun stores" in Las Vegas that rent firearms for people to take out of the store to such things like the DEF CON Shoot. If you find otherwise, please post what you found.

Several stores have their own shooting ranges, and will rent firearms to people to shoot at their ranges, but I know of none that will rent firearms for people to take with them. (Renting at stores with ranges to shoot at their ranges has not been a problem for non-US people I've travelled with: only needed a credit card for deposit, and passport.)

Some countries have agreements with the US to allow non-US citizens to bring firearms with them to the US, and the US to admit them, if they are attending an official match. (Like IPSC.) Paperwork is required.

If you are looking for something like "Is or does the DEF CON Shoot have an official IPSC match?" I do not think it is or does. Assuming it is not, and bringing your firearms with you to the US requires that you attend an official competition like IPSC, I don't think the DEF CON shoot will satisfy such paperwork. If you need such a thing, you could look for a match in Las Vegas around the time, attend it and then the DC Shoot.

If you are unable to find a place that is willing to rent you firearms to take out to the DEF CON shoot, you can check with people that attend to DEF CON shoot to see if they would be willing to let you use their firearms. Each person attending has their own rules for lending their own equipment -- this not an event where all weapons are available for rent by a central authority.

If you plan to rely on others for options to shoot, please bring cash, and offer to pay for the rounds you shoot, even if the owners do not ask for money. Some rounds can be expensive, and small calibre rounds may cost much less, but can quickly become expensive when fired in full-automatic firearms.

That was July 9, and we are at July 13.

This registration was for lanes, and fees covered things like tables, and covering for shade. People that bring their own weapons would often get a table. I do not know if people that did not bring firearms are required to pay anything. Historically, on-site payments have been allowed for many things. Check with Deviant Ollam for answers to those questions.

By watching YT videos I was under impression that you don't need to own or rent a gun (somewhere else) to participate, and that those are available to participants as long as they pay for ammo and lane.

Stop by my lane and you'll be able to shoot some of mine.

As of right now I have 0 people in my car and I can carry four to the shoot. I bring my own firearms which anyone can shoot, I only ask that you pay for the ammo you shoot. It is not cheap. I try to acquire unusual firearms that are not commonly seen. This year at the very least I will bring (and you can google):
Arsenal AF2011-A1 45ACP
Uberti 18" Buntline 45LC
Serbu Super Shorty 12ga
DP-12 double barrel pump shotgun 12ga

If anyone wants a ride to the shoot please let me know. I do have to depart quickly as I have other commitments so if you plan to make it back to the hotel swiftly then let me know, Sorry I cannot hang out until the very end.
