Hey all..flew into Vegas from the UK on Sunday..staying at Caesars...happy to hangout with like minded people ......bored walking up and down the strip....although drinking cold G&T's..and people watching on the strip has been amusing...:)

I appreciate the advice, I look forward to a good time, and a bit of trolling is expected lol

In the days before con, you can sometimes see people that fit the demographic of attendees hanging out near the convention spaces, but more often you will find them in the bars near the convention space. Tee Shirts with trendy comments, political commentary, computer/hacker memes, and topics of conversation can give some hints to each group. Walk up, listen for a bit, and if they look at you and stop talking, introduce yourself and let them know this is your first time. Expect high risk for trolling, or "bad advice" so be suspicious of any advice, and try to use body language and facial expressions to determine if they are playing a joke or providing you with genuinely good advice; whatever the outcome, these are opportunities to get better at detecting bad or misleading information.
Follow https://twitter.com/defcon/ on twitter. Check to see if they have tweeted any informal meetups. If you can't find any other DEF CON people in person or on twitter or other social networks, find a somewhat public place with space for people to hang out, and maybe sit, and notify the defcon twitter account of your plan to be where you are, specify location and time you will be there... maybe others are looking for the same and will find you.
Example of bad-advice trolling to mislead: "Oh, no, they moved badge registration to the Alexis Park hotel. yeah, you have to go there to buy your DEF CON badge now." (This is not true: badge sales are planned in Caesar's and the location should be on the map; this is an important lesson -- validate strange claims with authoritative sources. The stranger the claim, the greater the need to check and validate.)
Good luck!

Any noobs want to hang out before DefCon?
I'm showing up to Vegas a few days early and was wondering if anyone wants to hang out. I need friends and I'd like to get to know people who share my interests and who I could learn from. Thanks in advance and I look forward to seeing you all at DEF CON!Tags: None
