[I'm going to keep editing this post with updates so it is an easy to find place of new stuff - Last updated 2021 Feb 22]

The new forums have had a bunch of updates since we have been off-line:

• Is more friendly rendering on more resolutions
• Is faster, thanks to updates as well as support for the latest versions of the DB, Web Server, etc.
• A mobile application version 2.0 just out for Android and soon for iOS, we are looking into licensing it licensed!
• Better mail integration with our existing server infrastructure
• Reachable over IPv6
• Now with TLS 1.3 and HTTP/2 for faster and better security
• We have removed all CBC cipher modes which breaks certain older browsers. Sorry not sorry!
• We now have an iOS and Android Mobile App - click the links above in the nav bar to get them.

Here are some of the new features or permissions that have been enabled that are different from the "old" forums:

• Photo upload and photo albums for registered users
• The multi-user messaging feature is enabled so you can do group chats - notifications now working on mobile app
• You can now comment on others profile pages
• You can "like" posts (Lower right of a post)
• Members can now "comment" on message comments. This needs some testing
• We can do custom smilies and icons. Woo!
• The Articles feature is enabled and we are figuring out what to do with it
• A members only area not visible to guests, bots, or search engines
• Experimenting with "Topic Prefixes" that allow for standard subject prefixes on new threads, like "Question:"
• On the next update will include the other Three language packs in addition to English: French, German, and Spanish now installed.

New for June 2020

• Switched from gzip to brotli compression for an additional 10-20% savings
• Update forums uses better / faster / more compatible Java Script JIT
• Enabled better file caching strategy
• Testing the forums Tor .onion address! More on this later once the final bugs are sorted out.

New for Feb 2021

• The forums are reachable over the Tor network here: http://ezdhgsy2aw7zg54z6dqsutrduhl22...7gs6wfad.onion
• Currently you can't log in over Tor, but once we solve a secure cookie problem you will be able to.
• The homepage has been simplified to help show off the other communities besides just DEF CON

I'm trying to simplify the layout and start from scratch as much as possible. No past content has been lost, but it is currently hiding behind the curtains as the new layout is being implemented. Once we are ready for DEF CON planning then I can work on how to bring out the archives. Most past content has been made visible, and the remaining is being worked on.

Note: The search, Recent Activity, New Topics, Who's online features are only available to registered accounts.

More soon on the idea behind what I hope we build with the forums, but for now thank you for stopping by!

I'm in need of some info from the DC23 forums, if there's any way you could throw some zip files up of the old forums temporarily. Doesn't need to be pretty, I can sort through a raw dump.

We are getting close to being able to start dragging older show archives over to the visit part of the forums in a week, maybe. We are working on how to simplify the layout but still get you all the information, and I think we have found a way.

We can test it with the contest you are interested in first.

The fastest option is I just copy and paste it to you in a message.

Awesome, thanks, that's most of what I needed. Do you know if the image that was under the "BOM" section uploaded locally to the forum or was it an offsite link? I can do without it if it's a hassle for you to get.

The storage of the old forum content does not lend itself well to being zipped-up for humans or browsers to read. The forum posts are not stored on the filesystem as files; they are stored as records in a DB.

When to make archives available to users is a decision for DT.

What can you do? The path most likely to change the priority of that step he has announced is planned it to explain what you need and why; reason is a great motivator.

Another option? Try "The Internet Archives" : https://archive.org/

I wanted to look at seeess's writeup of the DC23 shoot badge, he made some detailed posts at the time with full parts lists and all. I can bug him for some of the info, but the posts had it all detailed out. I am looking into reissuing the badge (or one very much like it) for this year.

Hello, Apologies for the longer-than-expected down-time for maintenance.
More than usual DB work was required.
Forum software has been upgraded.
45 legacy styles no longer supported with latest release have been scrubbed from the DB. None of your accounts should have been using them anyway. Most were duplicates of existing names, just not supported or upgraded.
if your account was attached to a legacy style, and the web pages on the forums look really different, choose a new, supported style from those available.

Problems found:
When trying to view a thread "Search result already expired, please try a new search" error, but eventually this error went away; looking for a way to duplicate. Once I know how to duplicate this error reliably, I have a better chance at tracking it down.

Please report weird CSS/Controast issues with contents. Sometimes upgrades displace customizations to make themes work, forcing us to re-create those customizations.

Initial size: 32x32 pixels, PNG, prefer 256 colors or less. Larger sized images may be used in the future, so consider providing several sizes:
32x32
64x64
96x96
128x128

Please use original content, or some variation of opensource artwork, or artwork which you have Copyright controls.
(Piracy does not work, when you "store" your "pirate treasure" out in the public for anyone to find.)

Content provided should not violate the forum rules, or the DEF CON published Code of Conduct.

Please strip out any meta-info from the image, and publish them with some sort of Creative Commons, or GPL, or other public source or public domain use, or grant Copyright permissions to DEF CON to reproduce them (that is kind of how web servers work, yeah? It would be silly to give us an image and not give us permission to copy it and modify it (resize, strip meta info, etc.))
