          NOTE:
Starting with this batch all new torrents that are being built include additional trackers, one for an IPv4 and one for an IPv6 address. Why do this? Our tracker server threats v4 and v6 addresses differently and won't hand out a v4 address to a v6 connection. This reduces the discoverability of clients. By splitting into different tracker names your bittorrent client will (hopefully) connect to both the v4 and v6 names and get get ALL the available peers.

This is a long term project, but as content is updated the new trackers will be added.

              January 2022 Update:
It was another good month for transcoding and getting some updates in. The big lift was getting NANOG processed, that took about a week. Next up will be ICANN, other CCC conferences, and clearing the deck to work on the giant batch of Security BSides updates.

On our server front we have upgraded our qBittorrent software and am getting ready for when libtorrent 2.x is ready for production - that will be a BIG DEAL for us, we can finally start building and seeding version 2 (v2) bittorrent .torrent files.

                February 2022 Update:
It was a great month! After this things will slow down a bit as I shift focus to the skills and documentaries directories.

                SERVER UPDATES:
                • We did a big lift of getting all the torrents synchronized and deployed another P2P server to give us some geographical diversity outside of Seattle.
                • All torrents now use the new tracker format supporting IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, and all older torrents have been removed.
                • We have fixed the TLS certificate on tracker, some BitTorrent clients couldn't handle EC TLS certificates so we switched back to RSA certs. That should help with torrent discovery.
                • [Future] We start testing BitTorrent v2 torrents in April to see if the technology is ready for prime time.

                    March 2022 [2 of 2] Update:
Infocon.org Transcode & Metadata Update is Complete!

After almost a year and a half I've gotten the complete infocon.org/cons collection trans coded using the new format as well as all the meta data added with album art. All the torrents have been recreated in BitTorrent protocol v1 format using our new trackers. Phew! 😁That was huge.

                    INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATES
                    • New TLS certificates have been created for our trackers and all torrents have been updated to use them.
                    • Our tracker now redirects unencrypted HTTP to our HTTPS tracker.

What is left? A couple things:
                    • About halfway through I started simplifying file names, removing the con name from the filename because now that data was in the video metadata. I will update and shorten the filenames of the cons that are missing it when I have time.
                    • We are tracking down a IPv6 tracker problem.
                    • Experiment and then start building BitTorrent v2 torrents. This is still early days with qBittorrent just releasing version 4.4.x with native v2 support in December 2021. I expect in the next couple months to start building v2 torrents.

                    UPDATED In the infocon.org/cons/ directory
These are already existing conferences that have a new addition added, like the current years event. They are re-encoded, renamed, ID3 tagged, and a moov atom added to make web streaming more compatible.

                      May Update:

It's been a couple months since an update, I got stuck in a rabbit hole of updating other servers and skills lists.

NOTE: We have changed our encoding options to now down-scale to 30fps. Some cons are now recording at 60fps, and that's too crazy for talking heads.

                        June Update #1:

This should be (almost) the final update before DEF CON 30 and will be included in the Data Duplication Village hard drives.

NOTE: We have changed our encoding options to now down-scale to 30fps. Some cons are now recording at 60fps, and that's too crazy for talking heads.

OK I’m back in action after the summer conference season. I’ve added over 35 updates and will be adding more next week.

I’m also considering adding from the vx-underground site to our mirrors collection. Have any suggestions? please post them in the New Content thread.
