Sat Hacking Practice Safety?

Hello all,
I have a question related to safety and the satellite hacking contest. Do I need to consider the physical safety of the work area, such as EM shielding, etc? I have heard rumors that participants, known or suspected, are being targeted by EM and scalar weapons, and it is enough of a concern that I am nervous about signing up.

In the event this is a concern, I have not been able to find shielding for scalar weapons. Would a faraday cage work? Recommendations would be appreciated.
