An odd place to ask, but I figure some of you might have them so I thought I'd ask....

I just bought a pair of Doc Marten 8761's (10 hole, steel toe) and am waiting for them to be shipped. Just wanted to know if they're really as comfortable as everyone says or if its more like they're comfortable....for being a big boot. I've had a few people tell me they hated theirs but a pretty small number. They will be supplements to the always comfortable airwalks.

So whats your Doc Marten experience?

    >> another boot thread http://forum.defcon.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1485

I have about 5 pair of the 8760's (discontinued)
Dr Martens Steel Toe Boots 8760 Black
    Color: Black Fine Haircell
Leather: Fine Haircell: Simply put, a leather with a fine haircell texture

I chose it over the 9203 since I don't want everyone to know I have a steel toe :) Which is obvious with the leather stitch over the cap....

anyhow they are very comfortable, I wear mine everyday (until the soles give out).. and they can't be resoled according to dr. marten's support line... but there are some people that are willing to take the task and have the equipment.. but I am waiting until all my boots die before I go to those measures...they take about 2 or 3 weeks of constant use to wear in, and once they do it is pure heaven... I have modified mine by adding a 10 hole zipper on the front, since I am mostly sitting at a desk in front of boxes so I don't need to tie and untie them when I need to move around... very great boots, very comfortable! I have talked the dmarten's and they mentioned that I should be able to find pairs out there ( I was trying to order more pair for the future since they will no longer produce them :( )... You will enjoy your pair, let us know after you break them in! :)

*note you may get minor bruising while breaking them in ...

Thats pretty much what look like except with the toe cap stitching. Perhaps it will make people think twice before asking me why I'm wearing boots with shorts and in summer :D

The zipper ideas good, might have to do that if I wear them everyday......

You might hit ebay up, there's a couple people who seem to have a steady supply there, few though that looked like good ones in my size. I found mine which were a store display model for $60 which seems pretty good. There's usually a couple pairs of 1940s on there but they were taller than I wanted. No stitching over the cap though...

I'm currently wearing the 20 hole version of those boots. I've had them 4 years and they still shine up like new. The soles are wearing but still have alot of life in them and are still comfortable.

The only complaint is that finding long enough laces is a royal pain when they break.

They have survived Rain, Snow, gravel, Desert, Mountains, Defcons, New York and just about every other hostile environment I've encountered. Best investment I ever made.

Note: Anyone found a good supplier in Canada? There's a severe shortage of DM boots up here.

Well its been a week and a half or something and they're definately better than when I got them. The sole is super comfortable to stand on, but they're still not all that great to walk in. Maybe they just need more breakin and flex but it feels like they're too loose and rubbing on my heels. I wear us13 in all my other shoes, so I got these in uk12, but I think they might be about half a size too big. I'll give 'em another couple weeks to get better for walking in before I switch back to the airwalks. If you're looking at a pair I'd say try them on in person since their sizing seems a little big

Breaking them in is a cast-iron bitch, but they are worth it. I have a pair that is over 6 years old.. still look good. Get the "shoe balm" or whatever the fuck it is called, it will seal up cracks and scuffs. My only problems is the laces wear out easy..

                      Nice Doc's mate

Well mate I've been wearing Doc's of all models for years even when they were not so fashionable (over here anyway) they are a bitch to breakin I used to get blisters and all even resorted to bashing the back heel with a hammer to soften the leather it helped some if your curious but the best thing to do is put a sock in olive oil or something like that put adry sock over that then wear around the house till broke in then my friend you got yourself without doubt the most comfortable boot on the planet.;)

Martens are ok, but i prefer the real .mil boots

Too many asshat preppy fuckheads wear them for my tastes.
                        Yes I'm back bitch!

bah then i would just fall out, with the zips at least it holds my feet in, and if i really wanted to bend down and zip them up i could... though i have been checking out some of the retro-velcro strapping mechanisms that were made for rollerblades... we shall see.
